SHL Casino - Round-up and Future
#1

The SHL Casino (which I may or may not rename in the near future) debuted before season 48, and with it allowed players to wager their money on teams over/under and odds to win the cup. This was a process that we in the PT department, and myself especially, wanted to showcase and perfect as best we could in the short amount of time we had before the season started. Props to everyone in the PT department who stepped up and helped with the inaugural season of the casino but it’s something that @”Mike Izzy” and I had discussed and it’s become my baby going forward. Personally, I’m a little unhappy with how it performed in the first season and I’ve listened to some constructive, and warranted, criticism of some of the odds and over/under totals the casino had and I’m here to first say that I’m working on that.

With the help of the PT team, and input from a few specific individuals whom I trust, I’ve generated a formula that accounts for several major, and minor, factors of each team and generates a win total with a variance for each, which allows me to create a more accurate, and hopefully more entertaining, betting system where every bet may be a lot closer than they were in previous seasons.

Another change that will be made going into the second season of the Casino is that the bets previously were limited to two bets for each of the two categories, Odds to win the Cup and Over/Under. Some people we’re unhappy with this limitation, and I heard you, but it was put in place for a reason. In the future as the Casino matures we may lift or relax this limitation some, but for now, going into the second season, the limitation is shifting slightly. Players will be able to bet on up to three teams for the Over/Under, but now only One team for the odds to win the cup. I felt this was a good change as the Over/Under is a more entertaining regular season statistic to follow and has more variables to consider. Also, I figure that betting on multiple teams to win the cup felt a bit redundant. You should be confident in your one pick to win if you go that route, and therefore this shift will happen in season two.

Next, I’d like to share some final numbers from the inaugural season of the Casino with you all:

A total of 51 users placed 147 bets on the Casino in the first season. This averages as just under 3 bets per user, and the total of all these bets equaled $128,400,000. I personally did not expect to see this much money enter the Casino in its first year but I’m excited to see that many players were willing to take a chance on a new prospective feature for the SHL.

Of the 147 bets placed, 86 of the bets paid out, equating to a 58.5% win ratio for the player. As the first casino season came to a close, I felt that it would be an abysmal failure, but seeing the win ratio just above 50% I’m happy to see that many of the lines that I had worked hard to create from what data I was able to put together on short notice was not as bad as I once thought.

Only 11 of the 51 players lost money on the Casino in its first season, while another 20 players broke even, and the final 20 players made money. It seems pretty evenly spread, and the total profit made by players on the casino at the end of the season equaled $34,800,000.

The most a single player made in profit was $4,000,000, and the least was $400,000.

The most money lost by a single player on the Casino was $2,600,000. Only 5 players who made bets had none of them go their way while the other 45 players got at least one of their bets correct.’

16 players on the Casino had lady luck on their side, not losing a single bet that they made, though most of them did not bet the maximum 4 total bets that they could. I personally hope the shift in the betting limitation will change this.

I hope that the Casino was a fun experience for those of you that did take part in it, and that some of you are intrigued by the numbers, and the chance to win some money in a fun setting that you can follow all season long. My goal is to make it a consistent enjoyable experience for everyone, win or lose, and will continue to generate media updates of the casino along with the PT department to keep the community engaged with the Casino and listen to your feedback. I want to create a fun environment for us all, including the leaderboard which I will be updating in the near future, and hope that I succeed in this fashion.

I want to thank all of you that placed bets the first season, win or lose, and hope you found the experience in some way engaging to following the teams you bet on this season. For those of you that didn’t, it is my hope that following along with the Casino can be just as enjoyable.

Feel free to hit me up here or in Discord with any thoughts, suggestions, etc.

Honestly yes. I think once we can determine a fair and more accurate prediction of team win totals, then we can confidently increase the amount you can bet. This may take a few seasons in all honesty but it is a goal of mine.
