Hopes were high for the SMJHL S50 Draft Class today and you could just feel the tension in the locker room. All the Rookies gathered to await word of what team they would play for. Among those Rookies, none other than Badger, MN’s own Stan Hanson.

With a Draft Class of 39 this year, comprised of a large number of returning players, the jockeying for positions was tough. Things were beginning to look a little bleak for our hometown boy as the draft started to wind down. But then as the first pick was made in the Fourth Round of the Draft, Hanson found himself the wildcard pick of the Anchorage Armada.

Hanson, a 2017 graduate of Badger Independent School District #676, is no stranger to the ice. Hanson’s Grandfather, Steve Hanson, and Great Uncles, Jack and Jeff Hanson, made names for themselves playing Minor League Hockey for the Charlestown Chiefs. Now Hanson is on his way to making his own name in the SMJHL.

Hanson started training to play Hockey as soon as he was old enough to skate. Trained on the ice, under the tutelage of his family, Hanson could very well turn out to be one of the biggest wildcards in the SMJHL. Hanson is a Power Forward that followed in his Great Uncle Jeff’s footsteps and became a Right Wing. Possessing the legendary power and intensity that made his family famous, Hanson is one to watch out for in more ways than one.

Many a coach in the local Pee Wee Leagues have been heard to say that if he could learn to keep that legendary Hanson temper under control, he would be a monster on the ice. Hanson has always been ready to deliver a hard check into the boards and has never been known to shy away from a fight. Hanson has proven himself time and time again to be the toughest player to ever skate out of Badger.
