Anchorage Armada Draft Breakdown

Back in the day, when I first created Tommy Tuck, I was drafted by the now defunct Prince George Firebirds, who had been rebranded into the Anchorage Armada. When I found out I was drafted there, I was not disappointed, as I know there are a few familiar faces there from my time three years ago. I am excited to be an Armada boi, and I am going to break down their draft here.
With the 10th Pick of the Season 55 SMJHL Draft, The Anchorage Armada Select – Vladmir Petrov, Right Winger out of Russia. Vladmir Petrov is a balanced player who brings a devastating presence to the ice. Vladmir Petrov stands at 6’6 and 265 pounds. Easily, Vladmir is the biggest man drafted by Anchorage in this draft. He brings a balanced skillset to the team, where he is decently built both offensively and defensively, including his physical traits as well. Vladmir looks to bring the pain, and put pucks in net, and by his size alone, the pain is already brought. Vladmir looks to hopefully stay with at least Slava on the same line, since he already knows how to play with Slava, as that is what they did throughout their whole childhood. Vlad is ready to do what it takes to win a title in Anchorage, just so he can flaunt it over his brothers who weren’t brought here. With the 16th Pick of the Season 55 SMJHL Draft, The Anchorage Armada Select – Slava Petrov, Left Winger out of Russia. As Vladmir was the biggest player drafted by the Anchorage Armada, Slava Petrov was the smallest. Slava stands at a measly 5’10 and weighs barely 175 pounds in full gear. Vladmir had always protected Slava back in Russia, and he looks to do the same here. Slava could hide behind Vladmir and no one would even notice he was back there. Slava brings a special case with his size though, as he is one of the fastest players from this draft class. Slava knows how to get down the ice both offensively and defensively. Slava knows also, how to handle that puck well, and put it in the back of the net. He really can’t score from far though, something he is going to have to work on so he doesn’t get decimated trying to attack the goalie. With the 28th Pick of the Season 55 SMJHL Draft, The Anchorage Armada Select – Michael Withecheck, Left Defenseman out of Austria. This defenseman stands pretty tall on the ice, with his 6’4 Frame and 230 Pound Body. Michael Withecheck brings another Offensive Weapon to Anchorage. He can put that puck anywhere into the enemy blue line, and he has a cannon of a shot. He does not bring the best Defensive Ratings, as he has focused mostly on the Offensive side of the puck throughout his young career. Michael will continue to send shots flying at opposing goalies and will continue to look to put pucks in the net for the Anchorage Armada. Look for Withecheck to work on his defensive game throughout the off-season and preseason to become more of an all-around player for the Armada. With the 40th Pick of the Season 55 SMJHL Draft, The Anchorage Armada Select – Halldor Ragarsson, Left Winger out of Iceland. Halldor Ragarsson is something that is lost now a days on the ice. A Defensive Forward, who knows where he should always be positioned. He has a decent pass, and can put pucks in places you would not even think of attempting, and he can be pretty accurate on the net if he is within 10 feet of it. Outside of that though, my god, you should see him on the defensive end. He knows everything he needs to do, and while he might not always lay the hits, something that Vladmir loves, he knows how to forecheck and he knows how to stick check like nobody’s business. Halldor Ragarsson will continue to improve defensively and will be a scary force for any offensive player coming at him will have to face. I feel bad for the rest of the league when they must see this man on the ice, and before they know it, the puck will be going the other way. With the 51st Pick of the Season 55 SMJHL Draft, The Anchorage Armada Select – Coling Fuhr, Left Winger out of Germany. Another Left Winger Anchorage decides to bring into the mix, which is a great plan. Coling Fuhr is the complete opposite of Halldor Ragarsson, while Halldor is defensive minded, Coling is completely offensive minded. Coling can shoot, get open, screen, and just about anything a team would want of him offensively, he does well. Coling looks to put the puck in the net like Vladmir and Slava, and he needs to be paired with some great defensive talents to be able to cover for his weaknesses. Coling looks to make himself a lot bigger in front of the goals, as he already stands at 6’0 and 187 pounds, he might need to pack on a few pounds to help screen those goalies. But he knows how to do it anyway, and will continue to help Anchorage look to become a champion. After Coling Fuhr, the Anchorage Armada passed on the rest of their picks. Anchorage is really looking to set a tone with these players, and I truly believe that they have. Anchorage is looking to bring a Cup to Anchorage and these players can make that helpful jump into becoming a champion again. Anchorage is run by some great GMs and have already talked with, and assisted the rookies in acclimating into the team’s Locker Room. Anchorage knows what each player needs to work on to become the best that they can be and will look to continue to work on lines to get the best out of everybody that they can. I, for one, am Proud to be part of the Armada, and even though it is no Prince George, it will be a great home for Vladmir and Slava as they continue to improve. I think that all these rookies are going to make an impact this season, and Anchorage should be an early favorite to surprise a lot of teams.
