Tenna Rumbles
#1

In the southeast province of Graubünden in Switzerland, there is the small town of Tenna. It is a quiet mountain town where there is really nothing for children to do, so of course, they do the one thing that children love doing; they play games. A very popular game to play in Switzerland is hockey. The Swiss love their hockey.

The children can be found playing together in the street, slapping away with their wooden sticks at a rubber puck. Among them stands out a one child that you can tell will not be stuck in this quiet town for too much longer. At 16 years old, he comes in already at an impressive 6'4". He plays strong on the puck, not allowing any of the other children steal it from him as he looks for an open shooter. His hand are soft, yet strong; his feet, quick and steady. He doesn't play too aggressively, but is no pushover.

Leon Schweingruber plays Center for Davos U-17, an hour and a half drive from his hometown. He spends his weekends at home with parents and during the week he stays with a billet family in Davos. His dream is to one day play for the big club of HC Davos. They are a storied hockey club that has been around since 1921, having won the most NL Championships in the league and play host to the Spengler Cup.
Leon prides himself on being a sound and effective center man, always making sure to play well defensively and helping his team before he takes an offensive approach. He is one of the best centers on the penalty kill in his league, but don't count him out when it comes to 5 on 5 and the power play. He is a pass first and very selfless player, but if need be, he can let the puck rip as well as anyone else. His playmaking abilities along with his sound defensive game make him a very intriguing player and, he might not know this yet, but HC Davos has taken notice and are very excited about the oppertunity to adding him to their team next season.

When asks who his favorite player is, he struggles to decide. He enjoys watching tape on passing legend Joe Thornton but also appreciates the defensive ability of Patrice Bergeron. In the end, he decides his favorite player is from a town somewhere in the middle of his hometown Tenna and where he calls his “hockey home” Davos, from Chur, Nino Niederreiter. Some people are confused as to why Nino is his favorite player but for him, it’s simple: “My favorite player is swiss born. It’s what I was first exposed to and I pride myself in my swiss heritage. He may not have been one of the best players to play the game, but his work ethic is undeniable”

Even if HC Davos adds him to their club roster, there is a chance he isn’t there very long as there is a whole other world of hockey out there that attracts the best players in the world to their league and it’s only a matter of time before he is tempted with the lights and fame of the SHL.
