Janno Rosejac

Goaltender:  Raptors Colorado Raptors Raptors

TPE 448

The key to the Colorado Raptors back end this season is goaltender Yanno Rosejac.  While the goalie is not ever the only player on the team on the ice, it is interesting to see what a contribution they can be when a team is doing well.  If the team wins, at the end of the day, the goalie gets the win as well. Losses are unfortunately the same.  Yanno is very mentally tough though.  He doesn’t seem to be bothered by a goal, he can jump right back up and makes a high-light reel save on the next play.

Yanno is a season 58 draft member and has shown tremendous amounts of effort into developing into a reliable junior goalie.  The training and the extra work put in each week has enabled him to become one of the top net minders so far in the SMJHL season.  He sits with six wins in ten games played with a respectable 2.36 GAA.  Allowing only 24 goals to slip behind him in ten games.  In a league where so many snipers and skilled offensive players are hammering away every night, this is a stat not to be ashamed of.

Yanno is equally impressive with the blocker as he is with the glove so the offenders are forced to find an alternative weak point in the young goalie but there are not many. His quick reaction time enables him to cover more of the net and his reflexes are that of a veteran not those skills of a newcomer.

A big, tough tallie, Yanno covers more of the net than some of his counterparts but it is one of the inherent skills of being a valuable net minder. He’s not afraid to rush out to counter a play maker and decreasing the angle that they might have to score on him.  Another valuable asset he pulls out of his deep talent bag is the ability to quickly cover up rebounds.  He does not give many up, relying on his teammates to win the face off when he covers up and clear the puck from the zone.  Faith in his teammates is important as even when a shot slips past him, his guys are more than enthusiastic to get the goal back.  Colorado is showing and excellent depth and force with their teams and they will likely succeed with him in the net for a few years before Yanno is called up to the SHL.

As with all young players a few slight weaknesses will plague him until he gets to the big game.  He’s shy to handle the puck and he needs to get over this as it can be a pivotal move in turning the play in his favour.  It’s not a terrible flaw to have and his positive attributes very much outweigh any weakness and that is why is he and his team are successful so far this season.

Most goalies are anticipated to stay all five seasons in the juniors and so their development can be slower but Yanno is proving that he will be a force to be reckoned with when he gets the call.  His constant training and development will ensure his winning spot on a professional team and when he gets there he will already be at an elite level.

He is showing with great determination everything it takes to be a successful goalie in the SIM leagues. Good luck Yanno on the rest of your season...

(Until you play Anaheim...)
