(GRADED) DeepDive #1: the Anchorage Armada and a history of turnover

One of the oldest teams in the SMJHL, the Anchorage Armada have a long and storied past. This is not to say it is a good story. This team has been alive and kicking through going on 58 seasons, 2 full rebrands spanning 5,000km, and 21 different General Managers, the longest tenured being Acsolap for 12 seasons. The average tenure for a GM in Anchorage (skewed by Acsolap being a trooper) is around 2.7 seasons, meaning the average player would have 2 different Gm’s during their stay in the north most city in the league. Some of this turn around could be linked to the teams stunning lack of success through their 57 completed seasons, winning the Four Star only 6 times, half of those being in the first 10 seasons of the league. This would mean in 47 seasons they have only managed to best the rest 3 times. There may seem to be some turn around happening, having won the Four Star in seasons 51 and 57, but I wouldnt get overly optimistic given the teams history of being good for 10 seasons and atrocious for 40, if that continues as habit. One inside source was quoted as saying “The lockerroom is great, super active, but Gabe being GM is bad” when told about the average tenure being 2.7 seasons they responded “good”. For a solid breakdown of success vs gms, we have to look at this team season by season. Half of their championships came through the first 10 seasons they were in operation, specifically as the Prince George Firebirds. Over those 10 seasons the team saw Gibson as the founding GM, who on his first season took the team to their first title. He then stepped down and handed the reigns over to Brandon, who in his two full seasons as GM could not repeat the success they had found in their first year. We then move to Jackcrasher who stepped down in season 4 passing the reigns over to Raymond3000 who lead the team to a 23-14-3 record, eventually securing them their second championship in 4 seasons. He then steps down at the conclusion of season 5, bringing in Fisher who was around for an uneventful 2 seasons. After @JumpierPegasus won the championship in Season 8, it would take another 30 seasons and 11 GM's to win a championship, the longest tenured of that gap being @Rublic for 5 seasons in the early 20's. Infact, until @Acsolap took the helm in Season 44, Rublic would hold the title as longest reigning General Manager in team history. As much as it may seem like @Gwdjohnson gets ragged on alot, he is currently on pace to take over the title of second longest reigning general manager, and potentially the most winningest, as no GM in the teams history has won more than 1 championship, even including Acsolap's impressive 12 season run. As far as I can tell, Anchorage either has a very unfortunate time in terms of general managers needing to deal with personal issues, or the role in haunted, but it is quite unfortunate that so many GM's had to step down shortly after winning the championship, what could have been will never fully be known, but if Gibson, Raymond, JP, and Spooked all managed to ride it out, the possibility of Anchorage being the most winningest team in the league would be there.
