Life with a typo: The perta sabor story (probably part 1 of something, idk)

this is my first article

petra sabor, or perta as she was meant to be named, has always loved hockey. She's been playing the game since she was very young, going to games and spending time training away from the rink. Her family has never been as interested in hockey, or sports in general as she has, but she was always in love with the game, watching and playing the game, and training in all of her off time. By the time she got to middle school, she convinced her parents to let her play for a travel team and then not long after she decided it was her passion and would try to turn pro when she could.

But her hockey life is a story for later. To get to know perta, we first have to talk about her name. Specifically the name perta, as it's a strange one for sure, but it's the one her family wanted her to have, and one she frankly loves. Her family named her petra on accident, but has always called her perta, and that's what everyone has known her as that's what she was meant to be named, and she loves the unconventional name, and that its a spoonerism of a more traditional name, and she's never changed her name because she considers the typo a hilarious part of her life, and great talking point and ice breaker whenever she meets new people, which is one of her favorite activities. While she'll never have a drivers license or official identification saying perta, that's just what she's called. The name is a microcosm of her life, a strange, funny quirk that just happened to stick and find the perfect place for it in the world. Another thing to note about her name is the capitalization, a stylistic preference she's had since she was young that has stuck, its just a strange personal preference of hers, and she adamantly sticks to it if anyone tries to convince her otherwise.

Back to her life though, while her family never loved sports the way she did, they were always beyond supportive of her hockey dream and passion. Her father, Jared Sabor, would take her to games and spend money on additional training and hire trainers to help her get better from the age of 10, when it was evident perta was a phenomenal player and could really make something of her passion if she worked hard enough. A blue-collar advocate of hard work, and also regretful of turning down his dream of writing for a dead-end job with a boring company, he wanted to make sure his eldest daughter didn't miss out on the opportunity he long wished he had been able to seize years ago, but instead opted for a more sure career not wanting to potentially not be able to support his wife, and later family, and has long regretted it because he hates his job and wishes he could start over to write now. But he lives vicariously through his daughter's dream, and has become a huge fan just because of her, and to support her, not only showing up to every game but also watching hockey in his off time with her, he's become a genuine fan of the game because of his daughter's dream. Her mother, Arianna Sabor, has always been a bit of an enigmatic figure, hard for perta to piece together, but she truly does care about her daughter. While they don't share the closest bond as people, they have a great mutual respect for each other. They have their fights as mother and daughter often do, but their love for each other is deep and each relies on the other in times of need or hardships. Her deepest familial relationship is with her younger brother, Alex, who despite his social awkwardness and anxiety, is a very funny, deeply caring person, who perta spends a lot of time with, with them sharing a lot of passions and hobbies off of the ice. Alex is very much not a sports fan, going so far as calling perta's love of hockey "weird" and just never clicking with that side of her, but the side of her that's a weird, nerdy, relaxed person really clicks with Alex and she's one of the few people he really knows and who knows him beyond some of his interests.

Born in Switzerland, her family moved to the United States when she was 11, but she has always dreamed of playing for the Swiss national team, but she loves the area in northern Minnesota her family moved to, although she still identifies as swiss and will always  will, the home her family was in for her teenage years is one she grew to love. The hockey team she played for in MN was one of her favorites she's ever played for and met some of her best friends for a long time there, even as they fell out of the sport and perta continued to climb and work her way to the highest amateur levels of the game before now seemingly turning pro.

Always a scoring threat from a young age, perta has a great wrist shot that was always her bread and butter, and able to score at will against the younger competition she had to train more and more to keep her scoring touch as she aged and got to be facing better and better competition, until she was facing some people who have some serious talent as well, on her first travel team she was a part of. She faced real competition who could someday see the SHL, but you never know on those travel teams. Her offensive touch is really the greatest talent she has, and she uses it to great efficacy. While she knows she won't dominate off rip in the SMJHL even, as she would be playing one of the highest levels of hockey in the world, she hopes that if she keeps her incredible work ethic that got her this far, she could maybe be one of the more talented scorers, and even maybe make an impact on an SHL team. She has always wanted to be the best and puts in the work to show it, but she also knows her limits and that being the best in a league like the SHL is something that even the hardest working can't always achieve and it takes a lot of luck and the perfect situation to even make an impact in the league, let alone try to become the best.

With the draft upcoming, she's looking forward to seeing where she lands, she has a few friends she's made along her strange, wandering path that has led here here, but she looks forward to getting to know more and more varied hockey players throughout the SMJHL and the SHL itself, considering her penchant for social interaction and just love of making new friends.

While we know a lot about her as a person now, and more to learn in the future, her hockey life is still well ahead of her, and that's what this league is all about. Walking into a league like this is a daunting task, and despite how hard she's worked to get here, perta might still flounder when the rubber hits the road, but she's ready to work for it right now.
