JURT
All-Star Committee Posting Freak
Today's game between the Chicago Syndicate and the Seattle Argonauts took an unexpected turn late in the third period when two former teammates on the home team suddenly kissed after a scrum around the net.
And it was not a mere peck on the cheek. The two players engaged in a complete embrace an initiated a passionate yet short make-out session right there on the ice, under the incredulous eyes of their respective teammates, the crowd, and most of all the officials on the ice. "We didn't know what to do", referee Zhee Brah told the Chicago Sun in an unprecedented interview of the men in stripes. "No one has ever seen anything like that on the ice, the fact that we're talking to you right now is proof enough of that." One of the linesman, Isiah Nuffin, is still perplexed and wondering how, if at all, he should've intervened : "What are we supposed to do? They weren't breaking any rule, but when two opponents get physically entangled it's our job to split them away”. The players involved in this incident are Syndicate captain Gunnar Söderberg and his ex-teammate, Argonauts center Jean-Uhtred Ragnarsson-Tremblay, commonly referred to as JURT. The latter is a former Chicago draft pick and S57 Cup winner with the team who was traded to Seattle this last off-season, by his own request. It was the second time these teams faced each other this season, but it was the first time JURT was back in Chicago to face the guys he'd won the Challenge Cup with back then, so emotion was high from the beginning of the game. JURT was even welcomed with a heartfelt tribute by the Chicago organization as a huge part of this first championship in franchise history in his rookie season. The touching hommage rapidly turned to a frustrating game for the half-Finnish, half-Québécois player. despite the Argonauts coming in strong and hard in the first period, the Syndicate were really giving them a pounding by the end of the game : it was 9-3 Chicago a few minutes into the third period. This frustration came out of JURT around the five minute mark of that last period. The center rushed towards Mat Smith's net but was high-sticked from behind, losing the puck in the process. Smith covered it and the whistle blew as JURT turned right back and got into a shoving match with the culprit, none other than Söderberg. "I didn't realize it was Gunny at that time", he says, "I was just angry from the game situation and getting a stick right to the face like that made me lose it for a second. I'm still a bit pissed at Gunny for it, to be honest, but I can't stay mad at him long." As is obligatory when these kind of things happen, every player on both teams stepped in and joined the scrum. When things calmed down and the officials started sending everyone on their own way, only two players stayed behind, but they weren't fighting anymore. Mat Smith was at front row to see what happened : "The puck was stuck in our zone for a little while and I saw Gunns and JURT having a battle beside me as I was covering it. At the time I didn't think much of it but just as was giving the puck to the ref I looked back up and they were just going at it." Even on the bench, it was impossible to miss the events and the confusion was palpable for former Chicago captain during JURT's time in the windy city, Corey Kennedy: " Yeah I saw it, it was kind of hard to miss. I mean, that's Gunnar, little surprised by JURT, tho during his time here they were really close. We all miss JURT, some more than others it's a bit clear now", he says laughing. "We were planning on inviting him out tonight to chill, but seems like he might be a bit distracted now... Good for them. Gunnar is never going to live that one down tho." Current Argonauts captain and openly member of the sexual diversity community Cassius Darrow was also happy to comment on the matter: "Of course, I was taken aback. A lot was going on on the ice and I stepped in to keep the peace. I put my arm around [Kriss Darzins] to keep him back from the scrum and see Soda and Jean-Uhtred embracing. I'm happy for them. It's good for the sport to have openly queer figures and good for society to normalize LGBTQIA relationships." And who else was on the ice than JURT's own little brother Ragnar-Alexandre Ragnarsson-Tremblay, the Argonauts back-up goaltender who had to step into the game when starter Thor Odinson was pulled. The younger member of the RT family had a LOT to say about the events : "At first, I couldn't quite see what was happening. I knew the guys were frustrated and wanted to generate something by roughing the other team a bit. But then I realized my brother wasn't letting go of Gunnar. I came closer towards the middle of the ice to see what was happening, and that's were I realized he was full-on making out with him, a dirty Swede of all people. At first things my brain couldn't make sense of what my eyes were telling him, but I know my brother, I knew about his sexual preferences and I had already noted that he was acting weird last time we played Chicago, always stealing glances at Gunnar. My reaction? Well, I just had to yell "I KNEW IT" loud enough so they'd hear me and go back to my crease, what else did you want me to do?" Another important figure around the league was in the building and just had to comment on the situation, the legendary Mr. Johnny Hamilton himself : "Oh F*** YEAH!", yells the player agent. "I flew out to support some of my clients and see what Chicago had to offer. I had no idea before the game what would happen, but I was living for that jawn. I gave both Gunnar and JURT shit recently through our D&D group and on Twitter. When together they played it off nicely, but the chemistry is just... that's one helluva jawn they got going. Love to see it." From RART's and Hamilton's statements, we can assume that JURT has been a closeted homosexual for quite some time, and that things with Gunnar Söderberg might have been going on for longer than a few games. Looking back at these two's Twitter history, there's a lot of sexual innuendo that also suggests this could have been going on for quite some time and makes one wonder what are the real circumstances that led to JURT's trade to Seattle. When asked about it, however, JURT didn't want to divulge any more information: "Let's just say I'm glad it's out in the open now. I'm not going to give you any more detail about my and Gunny's own personnal lives except that I love this dumb Swede of mine." The so cutely called 'Gunny' was not available to comment on the situation. _____________________________________________________ 1250 words, ready for grading, split 50/50 with @sköldpaddor Thanks to @Matteo, @SDCore, @LarryTheMVP and @hhh81 for their contribution too our gay adventures.
