No doubt last season was very interesting season because of the debut of the two good teams - Regina Elk and Great Falls Grizzlies. Here in Great Falls all fans had some big expectations and overall Grizzlies did not disappoint their fans. Team finished second in Ciarelli division. That got Grizzlies in play-offs. Of course we all knew they will be there because of how SMJHL works, but still it was good achievement. In play-offs Grizzlies had some tight competition against St. Louis Scarecrow. Grizzlies overcame that obstacle. In second round Grizzlies went head-to-head with season favourites - Vancouver. Although Grizzlies won one game overall series result did not shock at all - Grizzlies lost 1-4. After last game it was time to relax for little bit and then get up and get ready for next season.
In off-season Grizzlies lost some good players but here was one player that fans did not wanted to see go. That player is latvian winger Janis Lux. Lux was teams leader in their debut season. He was second best goal-scorer and best in assists and overall had 59 points. He was also teams leader in play-offs and he deserved to be named Grizzlies MVP for their debut season. Stats are good, but after season Lux just left Great Falls leaving many fans asking if Lux will return for one more season. Lux went to World Juniors Championship and after that event we caught up with him. In interview Lux was asked to answer question about his future. He said "It would be great if I will go up to SHL, it would be new challenge. It would be equally great to stay here in Great Falls for one more season and maybe help them achieve something more than just second round in play-offs." At that time even Lux did not know what future holds for him. After we saw Lux was put in SHL RFA list many fans here in Great Falls knew he will come back. Of course it was not a 100%, but they were sure it will happen. Now we "Sports Life in Montana" have answer to this mocking question. Yesterday Lux signed contract with Calgary Dragons and it means that Lux is coming back to Great Falls Grizzlies for one more season. No doubt that is a massive news not only for fans but for Grizzlies organisation. And I think for all SMJHL too because Grizzlies overall will be stronger but with leader like Lux they can do something special. As we all know #25 is Lux shirt number and pub owners here in Great Falls were open 24 hours and sold drinks with 25% off. Fans were happy about this news. And I think not only fans but even Grizzlies GMs were relieved that Lux will be staying for one more season to help them with his experience to lead that young group of guys to greatness. As we all know teams training camp started today, but Lux was nowhere to seen. Unofficial information claimed that Lux was in Calgary, but we checked it and he was not there. "Sports Life in Montana" tried contact Lux and unsuccessfully. His girlfriend couple hours ago posted post where she and Lux are seen at some beach in Greece with text "Spending some alone time before Lux goes back to Great Falls tomorrow". We hope to catch up with Lux tomorrow after he returns to training and hope that Lux will give us some time. Jean-Pierre Bear, "Sports Life in Montana"
