Scouting Report: Beck Charlton, 16-year-old Center

Height: 6’
Weight: 200 lbs

Beck Charlton is a project, plain and simple. He’s all dekes and blinding speed and stamina and absolutely nothing else. He’s inept in his own end, essentially a human clear attempt, only the puck comes to the goalie attached to a player who can’t shoot and can’t make a play to get himself out of the situation. He’s got no defensive skill, no way to effectively cover for his lack of ability to retain the puck in the offensive zone. He takes a long time to get to top speed, and he fails to effectively use his agility and balance to support his ability to handle the puck better than most. He needs to work on everything, most prominently his faceoff chances, because for a center, he’s laughably bad in the faceoff circle.

If he rounds into something, all the better for him, it will be a testament to just how far he has to climb to become an impact player who a coach can trust to play in crucial situations.
