The Newfoundland Berserkers did not have the greatest season this year while coming in last place, but I believe they have a promising outlook for the next few seasons ahead. Newfoundland has a solid young core of players that will be returning to the team next year. At the top of the list is second year player Brennan Kennedy III who led the berserkers in goals with 35 and points with 57 during last season. Now with the second and third leading point scores playing in their 4th year of the SMJHL this last year they will be heading to the SHL next year and Newfoundland will need to look to fill those roles. Some players that Newfoundland will look to fill those roles going forward would be from Hingle McCringleberry, Nate Dogg, Matiss Ozolinsh, and Guinness O'Bigbers. These are the next two highest point scoring centers and wingers on the team that will look to fill the missing points that will be lost from Faust Faker and Ashton King. I think with these young players that Newfoundland has that they will be able to continue building a good forward core for the years to come. Newfoundland has a good young core of defenseman including two rookie defenseman including Lester Oiduser and Philip Fry. Along with these two rookie defenseman Newfoundland also has a third year defenseman and second year defenseman who were the top two defenseman in points on the team this year including Rasmus Bergling and Kayden King. These four defenseman look like a promising core for Newfoundland entering next season to be able to turn around the defensive zone problems as exhibited during last season with having some of the worst plus minus numbers both for forwards and defenseman. When it comes to goaltending list season Newfoundlands Tummy Hurts saw the majority of the starts this season. Tummy held his own in the net for Newfoundland this year facing 1531 shots and making 1354 saves posting a .884 save percentage. As a young goalie he was able to battle through the barrage of shots every night and was able to steal a couple wins for Newfoundland during the season with his outstanding play. If he is able to continue with his training and experience that he learned from and his first season he will turn out to be a strong goalie in the league for years to come. When it comes to the upcoming draft Newfoundland is going to be looking to improve its teams and with the number one overall pick that seems like a no-brainer to be able to get an elite prospect. Since Newfoundland had a tough season last year I don’t think there is any one position that cannot be improved so I think that with the number one overall pick Newfoundland will be looking to pick the best overall prospect based on their GM’s grades. Overall I believe if Newfoundlands young core continues to train hard and gain experience I think they have a real shot to surprise people for next season and seasons to come.
