Logan Webb living in the shadow
#1

Is the Simulation Hockey League ready for another Webb? Yes or no here he is, Logan Webb. Following up in the shadow of the legendary Kain Webb, the newest Webb has a lot to live up to in fans eyes. Will the new kid on the block be able to replicate his uncle’s success? Let’s take a look back.

Logan started his hockey career at a young age, here we find him at 4 years old. On family days Logan joined his uncle Kain on the Calgary Dragon ice scoring goals on Ryan Jesster. Old footage has been unlocked from the vault as he nears draft day. Here we see Logan accepting a pass from Nathan DeAngelo rushing in from center line as he blows by defender Tony Falone. Shifts from one skate, fakes a back hand, winds up and rips a shot point blank as the puck beats Jesster five hole! *Logan rushes in wobbling with his stick in hand keeping the puck in front of him. He pushes the puck as if playing shuffle board and it trickles off his stick and flutters past Ryan Jesster as Jesster lifts his stick to let the puck go five hole*

As he goes to celebrate Kain Webb, knocks down the 4-year-old Logan, but Logan drops his gloves and charges the elder Webb and grabs his jersey, swings a mighty blow, and knocks him to the grown. Kain was never much of a fighter, but the pint-sized warrior took down the elder statesman in one punch!

DeAngelo quickly rushes over and breaks up the fight carrying the little Webb on his shoulders for a victory lap! As Kain goes to the penalty box for roughing.

As he grew Logan would join other young players and made a name for himself with the Victoria Cougars. Now we catch up to him in a Triple A tourney. Logan joins the rush, locks into the left side of the ice. The puck is passed blasted around the boards from a Cougar defender, to get the puck behind the net. An awaiting Cougar scoops it up and breaks out to the front of the net, two defenders swarm him as he moves forward. Logan sees an opening as his man is watching the play and not Logan himself, and cuts towards the hash marks gaining a step on his opposition. The Cougar with the puck sees Webb, lifts the puck with a saucer pass across the crease. Logan is there to capture the puck quickly glances as the goalie tries to reposition himself. Logan rips a shot five hole utilizing the scrambling defenders as a coverage and the poor goalie had no chance in seeing that one as the red light goes off!

Most of Logan’s goals are much of the same, opportunistic, finding the right place and reading the play to make the most of any situation. Logan finished the tourney 10 games, with 13 goals and 21 points.

While many draft pundits do not believe Logan Webb will be a physical type of player, he has improved his puck handling and scoring skills. Many see him becoming a perimeter player, adapt at shooting the puck from tight angles similar to his uncle. He will be coming into the draft as one of the more prolific shooters but has a lot of other areas to work on in his game; specifically the defensive side of the game. He is a long way from being a complete player. I wouldn’t worry about how he is right now, building a winner is in the family name. Expect more of the same from Logan Webb as he looks to utilize this year as a building year as he grows to become a complete player.

What can we expect out of the young Webb, he has an uncle that won multiple awards through the league, and a few championships. If he is able to replicate half of his success, he will be a good addition to any team as he grows and develops. He has a great teacher, and mentor to go to with any questions about the league and how to achieve this kind of success. I can’t see a reason to believe he won’t be a useful top 6 player on any team as he develops into his prime.

Unfortunately, no matter how good of a player he may become, even with tempered expectations he will still be playing in the shadow of one of the greatest to lace hockey skates. It would take a herculean effort to even come close to emulating that kind of success so hopefully he and everyone else can temper their expectations as he grows into the player he will become.

How do you know!?!

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
