Deep Dive #1 - Vancouver Whalers
#1

My first deep dive is going to be about my SMJHL team, The Vancouver Whalers. Being new to this league, I wanted to break down the current team that I am on, and provide insight into what we can expect for the team moving into the coming years.

The Vancouver Whalers are currently made up of the following players, which I have listed by position and included their TPE amount:

C - Center
Colt Fox - 332
Wednesday Addams - 424
Thomas Liebold - 425
Average TPE - 393

LD - Left Defenseman
Remington Richardson III - 350
Ryan Quintana-Green - 425
Grell Fortox - 249
Average TPE - 341

LW - Left Wing
Graham Schwartz - 223
Johnny FourStar - 425
Jeff Lewis - 424
Lily Jin Morrow (That's me!) - 162
Average TPE - 308

RD - Right Defenseman
Bob Wehadababyitsaboy - 416
Bellamy Blake - 424
Jaden Tanner - 326
Average TPE - 388

RW - Right Wing
Inactive Forever - 425
Nick Larsson - 224
Scott Seitz - 350
Average TPE - 333

G - Goalies
Scary Jerry - 424
Gunnar Seggi - 220
Average TPE - 322

Just judging by the average TPE amounts listed above, it would seem that Vancouver is the weakest at the Left Wing position. However, the average TPE, excluding my player who just started, is 357 TPE, which is actually one of the highest positions on the team. Overall, the team seems fairly balanced, with each position averaging above 300 TPE, which is pretty high for the Junior Leagues.

This should put Vancouver in contention for a title this season, if things all go smoothly. That being said, lets look at the status of the league as of the end of this week:

Bastien Marchessault Division
St. Louis - 68 Points
Carolina - 63 Points
Kelowna - 46 Points
All teams make the playoffs!

Michael Fitted Division
Nevada - 60 Points
Yukon - 49 Points
Detroit - 37 Points
Colorado - 32 Points
Both Detroit and Colorado have approximately 14 games left, so should be a tight race towards playoffs. Yukon needs a historic collapse in order to miss out.

Cain-Robinson Memorial Division
Vancouver - 63 Points
Regina - 62 Points
Quebec City - 49 Points
All teams make the playoffs! Vanocouver and Regina will be in a tight race to see who will receive the round one playoff bye.

Tamper Town Division
Maine - 76 Points
Newfoundland - 54 Points
Anchorage - 44 Points
Great Falls - 32 Points
Great Falls really need to have an extremely strong end to the season in order to make the playoffs.

Altogether, Vancouver leads their division currently, and sits third overall in total points tied with Carolina. They have some large TPE numbers achieved so far, with some lower, active players that will only continue to improve and raise their stats. My player in particular, Lily Jin Morrow, was a free agent acquisition for the team mid season that is having a great start to the season, despite her beginning TPE being pretty low. She has a whopping 8 goals and 8 assists through only 17 games, which has helped her team stay in a strong position after the trade deadline. Vancouver should be an exciting team to watch through playoffs, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them win it all this year.
