It takes two to tango - Part 2 - Rowan O'Beirne

Part 2 of our deep dive into another one of the key parts of the Elks roster this season follows the Center on their top line.

Rowan O'Beirne - Center - 5'10" - 197 pounds - Dublin, Ireland

Luck of the Irish, an old saying a lot of people seem to cling to when it comes to explaining what happens from time to time to a player - person or other things that could require the assistance of luck. Rowan could be someone who benefits from that themselves as unlike the steady progression we saw with MB in the previous deep dive, Rowan dove in head first in just his second season. Starting of his career in S71 - Rowan put up a modest total of 41 points in 66 games. With almost have of those being goals. As a center - the old expectation was for you to be the set up man when it came to the offensive zone, but with the times changing so does the roles. No long is scoring relegated tot he wingers - centers can put the puck to the twine as well. What happened with Rowan in S72, I am not sure that even the best of analytics could have determined ahead of time. One Hundred - that a big number when it comes to the game of hockey and its even bigger considering it was done in 66 games. One hundred points - 33 goals - 67 assists. The assists make a lot of sense when you remember who his line mate was. A lot of players dream of hitting triple digits when it comes to point totals and Rowan hit it in only their second season.

With a lot of legs left on their junior career Id assume (S73 + 1) Rowan has already come out of the gate firing on all cylinders. Already matching the pace they had for last seasons point totals with a little more focus on scoring currently, I fully expect Rowan to be a big leader for the teams offense and off the ice as well.

What are some other key statistics helping this Irishman hit the strides he is? How about success in the faceoff dot - spending the majority of his career already winning more than losing which guarantees control of the play after taking them. What about to ever improving overall grade with a defense over 70 as a forward? Lastly the differential he is already running for GF/GA being in a positive light for S72 and S73 so far mixed with their SF/SA also carrying a much more heavy swing than seasons past? Really they keep continuing to improve their game all over the ice.

The Polar opposite of their winger - Rowan relies on being slippery more than pure physical force as they are over a foot shorter than their Regina counter part MB. It must be like looking at a graph seeing the large incline upwards as you look from the center dot to the right wing. The beauty of the sport though is the variety which it can provide and the benefits to having a mixed line up like the Elk are able to do. (533 words)
