Hello everyone! I thought I might take a moment to introduce myself, particularly to those SMJHL GMs who may be trying to differentiate the newbies from each other. I first made an account a… while ago. I found myself with quite a lot of extra time while I was away at school, particularly during the COVID years and just one sim league at the time was not enough to keep me from going insane. I started in the VHL, and there I will reside for a long time. I have heard there has been some interesting history between the two groups and honestly that doesn’t mean a thing to me. There are a ton of names I know and love here, and I hope to get the opportunity to meet even more people who are surprisingly just like me. But what VHL experience is important for my journey here, is that I am the current active, and hopefully ever (at least for a bit), TPE leader. I crave TPE, I dream about TPE, and I work a hybrid desk job that lets me stare at my computer all day, pretty well every day.
While I waited and lurked in the SHL Discord for probably a year or maybe more, I was very encouraged to hear that a portal was on the way. I had never been in a league with manual forum updating, and honestly with learning a hybrid money/TPE system, I couldn’t be bothered to learn that on top of everything else. But, I heard that the portal was released and promptly got super busy and didn’t really find a reason to think about the SHL for a few months. But now I’m here! I finally got bored enough for a couple weeks straight that I figured I could write a few more words, practice my craft of TPE earning just a little bit more. After asking a bunch of questions and doing at least 4-5 tasks that I wasn’t even eligible to do, I’ve finally figured out that I can write words for money! Not exactly what I’m used to, and I’m hoping I can have the restraint to not burn myself out from the lack of cap, but this is all part of the learning process. What else do I hope to learn in the coming weeks? Well I have never played FHM. I have played a ridiculous, although probably not even approaching the absurdity I’m sure someone has played (you know who they are, tag them for me!), of EHM. Not online, and I absolutely cheat, because I am lame and no fun, but hey, I have a blast. Now to bring this back to SHL talk so the graders (also a new concept to me!) don’t dock me points, is my connection from EHM to the SHL. First off, I wanted to make a non-man player. VHL careers are about 2 years, so I have far more ideas than I have opportunities to create them. So here is where my next player incarnation emerges! Obviously, this sport and the general community of hockey is dominated by white dude-bros, and as a white dude, although not really a bro, I figure I’m far too close to the stereotype to make just a basic player. Why not bring some representation, and try to bring some attention to women’s hockey. I know from even these last few days there are so many diverse and wonderful people here, so I’m glad that there are role models of all kind. Now for the connection to EHM. My last major playthrough was trying to create a super Latvian national team system. So I made my player Latvian. That was a lot of buildup for that, I apologize. Back to learning. I want to learn how FHM works, and how I can do my best to create a player that maximizes team performance. I follow instructions very well, and aim to learn the patterns so I myself can help others learn what I imagine is a wonderful sim engine. I probably won’t go as hard into build-tinkering as I have other leagues, but it would be cool to be moderately decent on my first go around? I decided to go for a defender, which is a position that the VHL’s sim engine STHS, somewhat struggles to figure out what it likes. I figure if I can learn how to make a classic mobile playmaking defender, I can figure out what it is I like about FHM compared to STHS. And I can get the defender itch out of my system for my next recreate. I’m hoping to be hearing from SMJHL teams soon about joining their LR and stealing their money. I do really like to latch onto a franchise and become their superfan, so perhaps the first team to snap me up will end up with a lifelong fan. I’m pretty talkative, and I like a lot of the things the rest of you nerds love. I recently graduated with a computer science degree, so that should give you an idea as to which nerds I’m talking to. I’m very interested in getting that Intense Rookie Coaching because I love TPE! It pains me to even think about not getting the maximum bang for my hard earned bucks. It wouldn’t be fair to Olivija to not give her the absolute best chance of making an impact this season as possible. One thing I have found incredibly frustrating during this transition to a new forum is trying to make sense of the pre-portal and post portal guides. I know its all very new and obviously I wouldn’t expect it all to be cleaned up and rewritten so fast, but even knowing what I’m allowed to do in a week has been a hassle. I’ve vaguely heard about a First PT bonus, which I’m hoping will just happen, as it seems that my first couple money claims have been denied and replaced with other ones, so hopefully this just means I’m manually claiming things that will be automatically handled in the future. Maybe all of this worrying is for naught. It is very nice to have a dedicated place to ask questions and exist around my peers. Hopefully some more of them will ask questions so I don’t have to carry the brunt of the question-asking load. It also seems like we’re getting some recreates trickle in, so that’s just another layer of people I can listen in on to glean information. I’m not sure whether coming in with pre-existing notions of what to expect has been helping me or not to learn this stuff, but I’m excited for the moment it all clicks. But for now, I am excited to be writing my first piece of real Media, something that I can look back on in a few years and think, wow, this is how I felt back then? Was I stupid? This whole SHL thing is the easiest thing I ever learned! I’ll try to remember to dig this back up and revive it. I know this has mostly been personal thoughts so far, I haven’t really put much thought into the types of stories I’m hoping to tell with Olivija. I don’t often lean into the roleplaying element of sim leagues, but I think with the variety and consistency of new prompts coming from the various PTs, I should be able to actually get a sense of who this character is and how I can portray her in a narratively meaningful way. Perhaps these Media pieces will continue to be my streams of consciousness, so long as it does well with the Graders, and those PTs will end up being my creative platform to explore character and perhaps even plot. Even before I play a game, I’m already so engrossed in all of the writing options I have. I don’t even have a team yet, and I could probably find a way to write about all of the individual things presented to me, or to completely different sub-groups of this forum that I was never meant to participate in. Hopefully the simming ends up being equally as fun, as I do enjoy some good ol’ hockey games. I’m not sure how quickly rookies make an impact, and whether I’ll even be able to grow any faster than my peers, which is of course my eventual goal. I haven’t really taken the time to look at the SMJHL and SHL tasks beyond the couple I accidentally did, and hoped for the best. For now I am just accruing a ridiculous amount of money, and hoping that this is the correct path forward. At the very least I should be able to get my nice weekly training for a long long time. I’m still getting my bearings on where we are in the season schedule and what sort of timeline I have before I start actually doing things. I can see why there is such a waiting period, especially for the newbies, but it would be pretty fun to start seeing some action, even draft action in the next little bit. Part of me does enjoy the surprise however, as not knowing what is happening can be rather exhilarating. Everything is a bit of a jump scare, and very novel at the same time. What I do know, is that I have a few weeks left to stand out for the draft. I’ll be happy to land just about anywhere, and would probably stick with that team until the end of time. Just for anyone who runs a team and reads long articles in their spare time. I do imagine that my primary method of earning TPE in the future however will be some hour-long solo podcasts. I did a string of podcasts in the VHL for a while, since typing is so much slower than speaking. I just had a ton to say and not enough fingers to type them. Don’t be deceived avid reader by this word count, this is just a fraction of the words I will hopefully have one day about this league. So keep an eye out for that once I hit a point where I’m comfortable committing that much time and voice to this forum. From what I gather, I should be able to claim this as my first PT for Double the money! As such I will be doubling it and passing it along… to myself! I want to shoutout the rookie mentors who have been darling at answering my many, and probably seemingly dumb questions. Really means a lot to have a void to scream into this early on, and hopefully my screaming can help someone else down the line. Anyways, and don’t worry this is the end of this amalgamation of ideas, I want to take a moment to manifest wonderful things that will happen to Olivija Agate in her soon to be illustrious career. I hope she gets the chance to build a team from the bottom all the way to the top. I hope she gets to demonstrate her abilities as a leader and a mentor. I hope she gets to make many friends and make some wonderful impressions along the way. I hope she scores many points, and more importantly, helps others to score many points. I hope she teaches someone a little bit about how FHM works. I hope she gets to lead Latvia to some form of international success. I hope she gives me the platform to learn and talk about women’s hockey. I really did love the PHF, and watching the Toronto Six on Twitch a few seasons ago was an incredible experience. I may not be able to afford cable television, nor will stations actually broadcast these incredible talents, but I hope I can learn something regardless. I hope I can earn lots of money and TPE and not get hooked on trading cards. Thanks for bearing with me everyone, and Graders, please be nice I’m just a scared little baby. (I’m sure you’re all wonderful and nice, the Title just brings me back to school, and I don’t love it) To Olivija Agate! The text editor says this is 2100+ words! I believe her.
