[J+H Media] A reflection on an Unexpected Rookie season

After the dust has settled and the lockers have been cleaned out, it's finally time to take a look at the past season and reflect on everything that happened and where to go from here. Having gone from zero expectations to feeling a point per game was within reach, Evil had realized how much he'd grown in such a short time. From the minute Quebec City called his name to the final buzzer in an unexpectedly short playoff run, the whirlwind of a rookie season has finally turned into a gentle breeze. The time to reflect has begun.
From the first day declaring for the draft, the sheer madness of GMs and scouts wanting to know more about him was almost too much. Having felt like at the very least personality should win in getting him somewhere, he had made sure everyone knew exactly who he was if they were going to put pen to paper with a contract. After the first round though, there was a lot of fear that he may not go as high as he'd hoped and may even fall into the bottom rounds. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he heard his name and would be moving into a place he didn't know existed until that day, Quebec City. This massive change of scenery could've crushed his spirit, however the warm greetings by the players, staff, and fans made an immediate impact on him. With the greetings out of the way, it was time to put stick to the puck and get going with the season. Preseason came and getting a +10 with 7 assists seemed to boost his confidence going into that regular season opener, but not knowing how much that would correlate to success against perhaps better lines kept him rather down to earth. Fast forward to the end of the regular season and being near the top of the team in almost every stat (including fights) and the playoffs seemed like a place to show he belongs. Finishing the regular season 6th in points and top 5 in +/-, PPA, SHA, Hits, and 2nd in GWG, suddenly Greg thought that he could be a leader the next few seasons in Quebec before he gets whisked away to another city and bring all of those that come into the organization behind him up a bar. Unfortunately, the playoffs came off great individually, but for the team it was almost forgetful. The early exit from the playoffs brought all the high expectations back down to earth, and even though his line performed amazingly well, it wasn't enough for the team to advance. Finishing with a +9 and 9 points in the 10 games did help Evil's ego, but knowing that it wasn't enough put a damper on it so quickly. After the final whistle, he walked around the city and saw all of the QCC jerseys and flags still hanging in people's houses and businesses. The sense of pride in this team shown everywhere made him realize that no matter how good or bad this team does, the pride in it will always be massive. After a nice dinner downtown and a nice reflection on the past, it's time to focus on the future. Walking back to the arena to practice up, looking at the rafters and all the banners from teams of yesteryear, it's time to create a new legacy and bring some more banners to the rafters! hell yeah!
“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.” ![]() |
