To celebrate an SMJHL cup final of the Maine Timber vs the Newfoundland Berserkers. I would figure to look back at the Maine Timber and their organization's evolution on the site in my time on the site (s53-present)  When I first joined the league the Maine Timber were not even a thing. The Maine Timber went by the name the Halifax Raiders. However Halifax was viewed as a cursed organization filled with frustration and a bottom feeder team, despite churning out high quality rosters rosters and top tier SHL players like Kalakar, Faelex, and suavemente among many others. The Halifax organization would see a slight change in scenery and branding and see themselves make a move to Maine and become the Timber in the off-season between season 52 and season 53 to match the sim change from SimonT to FHM.

The change would do little in the short term for the timber, having them finish last place in the east for season 53 and season 54. However an smjhl expansion before season 55 would give a shake up the league enough to cast the Timber organization from the Cellar giving them their first playoff birth in 3 seasons. The Timber would go on to make a deep playoff run, making the four star cup finals where they would meet the Newfoundland Berserkers, the Timber would go on to lose by a series score of 4-2 and find themselves with what can be considered one of the biggest mental blocks in sports and the development of their own personal rival or the final boss that is the Newfoundland Berserkers.

Season 56 would go on to be another solid season finishing with a record of 23-21-6 and a middle of the league standing being in 7th, yielding another playoff birth. The Timber would go on to win a thrilling seven game series over the St. Louis Scarecrows to start the playoffs but would then run into the Newfoundland Berserkers in the next stage of the playoffs. Where the Berserkers would go onto eliminate the Timber from round two in a five game series. Season 57 would be the last season for their current GM Citizen of Adraa (COA) and was a big breakout season for the Timber. The Timber would have their best regular season results with their current moniker. Finishing with the third best record in the league with the regular season record of 37-24-5. The timber would face-off in round 1 against the team with the worst record of the season, the Newfoundland Berserkers. The Berserkers finished with a record of 22-39-5 and the Berserkers would upset the timber; Eliminating the timber in 5 games.

Under a new head GM Toast, the 58th regular season would be a flip flop in standings for these two teams, where the Timber would now finish with the worst record in the league and the Berserkers would finish in third place. Causing the familiar match-up once again. However there was no change in the playoff result, the Berserkers would eliminate the Timber in 5 games. Season 59 would see significant improvement from the Timber finishing with a record of 27-36-3 and would face off and sweep an Anaheim Outlaw team that had a .500 record. This meant that the Timber would once again face-off against the Newfoundland Berserkers and be ousted in a six game series. Season 60 was a rough one for the timber, they would finish third from last in the regular season with a record of 20-42-4. The timber would find success again against an Anaheim Outlaw team, winning a dramatic 7 game series before facing off against their personal final boss, the Berserkers. The Berserkers would sweep the timber directly into the woodpile.

Season 61 would bring a big change to the way the SMJHL is shaped. With another expansion brought the league size to 14 teams, and would alter the playoff format. There would now be four different divisions two divisions of three and two divisions of four. both three team divisions would automatically qualify to the playoffs. The bottom team from each four team division would be eliminated from the playoffs and we immediately saw the downside of this playoff format. The Timber were in the division of death. So despite the timber having the eighth best record in the league: 29-31-6 (64 pts) they would miss the playoffs falling behind the 105 point having Vancouver Whalers, 77 point having Anchorage Armada and 71 point Kelowna. With the Timber missing the playoffs, this guaranteed that the timber would be in a three team division that would guarantee the playoffs next season. In season 62, the timber would go on to having the sixth best record in the league. The Timber would take care of business beating the Anaheim Outlaws in a six game series.  Then would proceed to run into the axes of the berserkers and be swept again. Season 63 would go on to be the best regular season result the timber have had finishing the regular season in second place. Breaking 100 points for the first time as the timber. Due to this success the Timber would receive a first round bye and would face-off against a Quebec City Citadelles team in a 7 game series that the Timber would be victorious in. The Timber would then be match-up against the berserkers. This is the clash of the two titans for the season, the berserkers finished in first so you would think this would be the real finals, the clash of 1 and 2 from the regular season and the timber would be swept for the third time in a row. This would be the final season that Toast was the GM of the Timber and would pave the way for the Next and current GM, Southpaw.

Despite not getting over the hump, Toast and COA did something far more important. They fostered a healthy space for people to grow together and enjoy this little foolish league.
