Dale Murphy Report- S77 Forge Playoffs G5 (2x Team)
#1

Hey everyone it's Dale Murphy reporting here from the city of brotherly love.

Well, it appears that we have our first team moving onto the second round, as the Forge knock out the Steelhawks here in front of a sold-out crowd. Here's a quick breakdown.
In a flip of what had been the script for the first few games, the Forge got themselves on the board early, a goal from Tony Sparano.  Oddly enough that was the only scoring for the first period.
With just 1:39 gone in the second, Cale Salad was sent off for hooking. Usually you don't want your best player in the box. But the Forge PK had different ideas, with Tony Sparano's second of the game giving the Forge the 2-0 lead on the shorty. Sparano's 4th goal of the series. Aleksandr Iskandrov brought the Hawks back to within one just a minute and a half later. Not even two minutes later Red Kirkby restored the 2 goal lead. The game would calm down a bit from there. Tommi Koivu would go for high sticking, but the Steelhawks got the kill. Late in the period Sebastien Regazzoni made it a one goal game again. At the end of the period the score was 3-2, but shots on goal were 27-9 for the Forge. Goaltending can keep a team in a game.
But it the third any dream of a comeback came crashing down. Kirkby added his second of the game at 1:33, Antonio Flusso got one on the powerplay at 5:49, Ubba Lodbrok at 18:52 made it a laugher, and for good measure Barg Hazbite made it 7-2 at 19:23. The final would be 7-2, with shots going 42-17. Disappointing end for Hamilton, you'd like to see a little more fight in an elimination game. The Steelhawks were just outclassed start to finish.

With the conclusion of the series, it is time to talk about some of the Forge's best performers.
Tony Sparano with 4 goals and 6 assists led the team with 10 points.
Cale Salad and Ubba Lodbrod shared the team lead with 5 goals a piece.
Graj Virrok had an incredible 8 assists.
Gnabe Dabson was a +11.
Antonio Flusso led the way with a 62.5% corsi, good for a corsi rel of 8.9%. Put him on the ice, and you'll see the puck hanging out in the Forge's zone.

On the other hand, you like to see these players pick it up.
Johnny Shuffleboard was dead last in corsi with 51.5%, a corsi rel of -7.6%. The worst mark on the team by nearly 2%. He managed just 4 points, a goal and 3 assists. He'll hope to right the ship in the next round,
BASE PACK got ran out of game 3 giving up 4 goals on 6 shots. Even in game 5 he allowed 2 on 17. For the series he had just a .898 SV%. The Forge would like to see that over .900 as the playoffs move on.

The Forge will take on Atlanta in the second round. The Inferno had a 3-1 lead on Tampa, but the series went the distance, with Atlanta winning a winner-take-all game 7 4-3 at home. Atlanta was the 4th best team in the regular season with 90 points, 2nd in the east. But due to sharing a division with the Forge, they meet here in round two. It should be a good one, get ready.

That's all folks,
I'm Dale Murphy signing off,
