IIHF Head Office Fantasy Flame Out
The Medal Games have been set here in St. Petersburg with the two previous rounds of playoffs giving us some not so close games in the first round, but the second round had a duo of games come down to just one goal.
Round 1 France 7 - Germany 2 In this Rhine based scuffle, the French came out ahead after taking the lead early thanks to Antoine Beauregard. The goals would keep coming for the French side as 3 members of their team ended up with three points (The same three of N’Zola, Wagner-Svenson, and Forfeit would be the three stars of the game.) The Eventual game winner came off Castillon’s stick while Winter and Marius were the scorers for Germany. Ireland 6 - USA 2 In a big upset, the winners of the group stage were sent packing by the Irish as packed four goals into the 2nd period alone. Derek Martin had a fantastic game with a hattrick and Seamus O’Slapahan had three assists. Adam Liebold tried to make a comeback a reality with a pair of 3rd period goals, but it was not to be. Japan 7 - Canada 4 The Defending gold medalists have also been sent home despite a massive offensive effort by the Canadians that saw BASE PACK have to block 46 shots. The Canadians took an early lead but 5 goals in the third period by Japan left Canada stunned and defeated. Nam Hoang had 5 points and Iskandrov had 4 points while Cale Salad was the player of the game for Canada with a goal and an assist. Finland 4 - Switzerland 0 The previous Silver medalists have also been taken out of the tournament as the Finns stunned the Swiss with a great group effort and a clean sheet from Carpet as the Finns overwhelmed the Swiss with a huge offense. Round 2 Japan 3 - France 2 The Japanese executed another comeback win after being down 2 in the second and then scored 2 unanswered. With 22 seconds left in the game, HIrano was the Herono to score the game winning goal for their 2nd point of the game, while BASE PACK locked in to save 37 of 39 shots faced. It should be that Brzeczyszczykiewicz also saves 31 of 34. Ireland 3 - Finland 2 There was yet another comeback in this round as the Irish were down by 1 late into the third until Peter Tingle and Toasty Soderberg-Snooks connected twice in two minutes to take the lead late. Both teams played relatively clean games with few penalties and the 4 awarded ended up not being of any consequence, but Klappanen, Nickelback and Mänty were the other goal scorers in this meeting. Tune in for the thrilling medal games as we see who will be champions in S77! WC: 464 Shoutout TheOPSquid for the Sig
