We had a chance to catch up with Jacob Marsh the little known underdog from Dundas Ontario after being selected with the 37th overall pick in yesterday's SMJHL draft.
Q: "So, 37th overall for an unknown kid who without a timely growth spurt may not have even been in the conversation. How are you feeling?" A: "Surreal, I believed I would be drafted but third round took me by surprise. I mean we're doing a zoom call because I didn't imagine going in top 3 rounds and honestly sitting in the green room in Houston for 6 rounds to hear my name called just seemed miserable. Newfoundland GM clearly saw enough to take a chance on me and want to make sure I reward that faith in me. Q: "Have you had a chance to meet any of your Berserker teammates? I have to imagine acclimating to the SMJHL will be a top priority in your rookie season" A: "Yea with the pre draft activities I've had a chance to see a lot of the rookie class and I'm beyond excited for the players they've brought in. Berserkers took 4 players ahead of me in this draft and I can't wait to hit the ground running and see what we can accomplish over the next few seasons. 4th overall Jason Bourne there's a lot I can learn from his game one of the more polished prospects in the draft. Along with Bourne, we brought in arguably the top goalie prospect in the draft in Katharina Rosenthal and a steal in Hamper Linthome in the 2nd. Q: "You forgot to mention Ima Noobie drafted with the 16th overall pick" A: "How could I forget Ima, may be most excited to play with him over the next few seasons. Both similar in that we have a lot to prove and while we have fans there's still plenty betting on our failure to cut it in the SMJHL. That desire to prove others wrong and that the 16th and 37th weren't reaches but steals is what I, and Ima I'm sure as well, will be looking to prove this season." Q: "Speaking of this season, what are your personal goals" A: "I want to hit the ground running, consistent improvement is what I'm looking for in my rookie season. With this group of rookies and the veterans in the locker room if we just continue to develop at the pace I know were capable of we could be in for some special moments in Newfoundland. I'm beyond excited to be a part of it. ![]() ![]() Registered Senior Member |
