Going into the draft, the Quebec City Citadels held the following picks: 1, 18, 20, 50 and 52
They finished the season 13th and were eliminated in the Quarter-finals by the finals-bound Kelowna Knights. While the Citadel’s offense finished above average, the defense was lacking, ending the year at 12th and only 8 goals away from 14th. During the draft, the Citadel sought to bolster their blueline using their 1st overall pick and 18th pick on defense. The final three picks were all on wingers, some speedy, some very speedy, and some a pure pest to play against.

#1 Rodwin Dionicio, Defenseman, No.55, Right shot, 6-5, 240lbs, Swedish
Dionicio is the unexpected #1 pick who’s gone under the mock drafters' radar never being higher than 29th. The massive 6-foot-5 defenseman brings everything to the table. Skilled in offense for a rookie, Dionicio can bring the puck up himself. He has a natural feel for offense and is able to find open players, get open himself, and shoot accurately from a distance. Not simply an offensive freeloader, Dionicio is adept in his zone throwing his body around, blocking shots, poking pucks free, and generally being in the right place at the right time. Physically, Dionicio shines, being a strong and fast skater who can overpower weaker opponents. Dionicio could continue developing down a two-way path or specialize. Whatever he chooses he should have no trouble being an asset to Quebec.

#18 Uwe Bindewald, Defenseman, No.9, Right shot, 6-3, 220lbs, German
Bindewald is a throwback to an earlier era loving to hit everything that moves. He is exceptionally good at reading the opponent's intentions and reaching them on time. While he can use his stick to harass his opponents, Bindewald prefers the old-school style of running over his man making sure all he can see is the rafters. Gifted with above-average stamina and skating, Bindewald goes hunting for the big hit and isn't afraid of anyone. With the puck on his stick, he isn’t the greatest but he knows how to get around his man and pass. Struggles to get open in attacks and often finds himself misreading the defense. Currently, Bindewald leans closer to an old-school shutdown defender but with training he should be able to continue bringing his soul-crushing checks while not being a liability in attack.

#20 Ivan Volchenkov, Wing, No.35, Left shot, 6-1, 205lbs, American
The average-sized American wing brings his unique blend of speed, shooting, and pure endurance to Quebec. Volchenkov’s ability to keep playing hard every shift throughout the whole game makes him stand out as a very unique prospect this draft. While not bringing elite quickness, Volchenkov is still quick and once the third period hits he is often the fastest skater while everyone else is tired. A lethal counterattacker, his shot is definitely on the top end of the draft class, able to shoot hard, and accurately from long range. In sustained attacks, he has a knack for reading the defense and reacting accordingly. A shoot-first player he is capable of passing but don’t ask too much from him, and why would you with a shot like his! Below average in his zone, he isn’t a liability but there is room for improvement.

#50 Shiny Rainbow, Wing, No.42, Right shot, 6-0, 180lbs, Portuguese
Don’t blink, or you might have missed Rainbow speeding by you. Blessed with truly exceptional acceleration, Rainbow can win a short sprint against anyone. With above-average speed to boot, it is a nightmare to try and lockdown Rainbow. Combined with pure speed is a mind that is great at reading and understanding play in the offensive zone. With or without the puck Rainbow knows where to be, what to do, and how to do it. Rainbow doesn’t like taking long shots, getting up close and personal to make sure that each shot is on target. Below-average in defense isn’t quite in the right positions or able to read the play. However, Some of that is offset by the pure speed.

#52 Jeff Santiago, Wing, No.21, Right shot, 5-9, 161lbs, American
The undersized American forward is quite the juxtaposition, just standing at only at 5-9 he is fearless and unapologetically aggressive. He has a good first few steps to get going but his max speed leaves more to be desired. His agility and balance on the ice make it hard for Santiago to play more stiles than pure north-south. He understands how to react in defense and has a great ability to get his stick in the way poking the puck loose and benign a general annoyance. On the other end of the ice, Santiago is quite average by all means but don’t sleep on his passing abilities. Santiago plays a remarkably aggressive and brave style for someone his size making sure his opponents know he’s out there at all times.
