SMJHL HO Some Guy Living in Mountain Time The tournament is off to a fantastic start and the teams are settling in. The venue is gorgeous and we are in for a good time over the next week or so.
Day one of the tournament saw Quebec put on a strong performance going 4-0-0 followed by the United States and Germany being the only other teams that didn’t lose in regulation, going 3-0-1. All three of those teams are in Group A. On the Group B side, we saw Finland be the only team to win 3 out of the four games. On day two, we saw shuffling of the teams amongst the groups but in pool A, the three teams who dominated day one remained atop their group. The United States , Germany and Quebec finished the pre-tournament as the top three with Switzerland rounding out the teams in playoff positions. In Group B, Ireland had a strong day making their way up to second in the group. Latvia , Finland and Great Britain were the other three teams to finish in a playoff position. Group A
Group B
Of note, Canada , France and Sweden will be disappointed with their performance and will be looking to have a much better showing during the group stage. On the flip side, the United states , Germany and Latvia will all be happy with how the pre-tournament went and will be hopeful to keep that momentum going. The fans were certainly happy to see the home team finish the pre-tournament as the only team to earn a point in all of their games. Onto the players side of the tournament, there are a few standouts. Erik Bergmark had 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 points in the 7 games. On the defensive side of things, the Phillip/Filip/Phillippe’s of the tournament had a strong start. Philip Fry led defensman in point whole Filip Lund was third in hits with 11 and Phillippe-Eko Eel was tied for first in blocked shots with 33. Justin Time led goalies with 2 shutouts and posted a sixth best save percentage at 0.917. BASE PACK was also notable facing the most shots and losing the most games but posting a respectable fourth best save percentage at 0.923. That’s a (quick) wrap for the pre-season. Good luck to all the players and teams as we head into meaningful games with the group stage starting tomorrow. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
