A new players POV of the DarkDaevin suspension

Hi, I’m new and this will be my first ever SHL media, but an introduction
My name is Jaret, or on discord I’m Jagg, I have been in the server for a total of 24 days, I have loved this league, it’s become my main pastime extremely quickly. I would also consider myself a friend of a few in the league prior to joining the league, one of which being Seany, him and I don’t talk often, and in fact I personally haven’t talked to him about this topic, I’ve only read his own media post I personally would like to echo Seanys sentiment and say this is ridiculous as a punishment, I personally have gone out of my way to learn about IIHF, I’ve had to ask how WJC works, when it happens, what’s the draft and selection process like, can I play for other teams, every question imaginable I’ve asked someone, because IIHF to me, as a new player, is very interesting and exciting, I mean who as a kid hasn’t dreamt about being the one who scores a gold medal winning goal. If tampering isn’t allowed, especially relating to nations of the IIHF, then is it disallowed for people to answer my questions since I haven’t been through playoffs? Should my friends be punished because they told me how things work and hey if u join Quebec or Latvia you’ll play with my player or I’ll be in charge of you, Any sane person would answer obviously not no, because this league creates a sense of commanderie, especially with people I’ve never seen in my life, why wouldn’t I want the chance to sometimes be on a team with my friends I think the problem here stems from the « spirit of the law vs the letter of the law » problem, the letter of the law says no tampering, but it’s clearly intended to be not to pressure a new player into doing something they’ll regret, picking a country that won’t be good or they won’t be happy playing for in a year from now, that makes sense What doesn’t make sense is how is this enforced, are my friends who said hey I play for this country now also liable and should be punished, should Cake307 be punished for telling me about WJC and how teams are selected and mentioning in passing « there’s less popular teams ». Is that tampering? Incentivizing me to either be interested in the US teams which my player is already a part of, and not switching to a team that has far less activity? Obviously fucking not, no So why are we punishing someone in what seems like an entirely arbitrarily applied rule, it’s clearly inconsistent for general consensus to be this was dumb, so here’s what I would do if I were a SHL rule and law maker 1 make the rule more clear, what constitutes tampering, what constitutes as education Or, in my opinion, a far better option 2 promote IIHF as part of the player creator screen, I know hockey, I live hockey, I am very educated with hockey topics in general, and I wouldn’t have picked Erik Johnson’s actual place of birth if I was at all aware of IIHF, and this is coming from someone who has plenty of friends in this league prior to me joining. So I’d mention IIHF in player registration, and mention you ONLY GET ONE TEAM CHANGE, these are both essential to this part of the sim, but things haven’t been changed because people couldn’t give less of a shit about IIHF Or another thought to throw out there, call in the « summer league » or something instead, completely independent of player birthplace, and have it be a fun little tournament all the same, then people couldn’t be tampered, and it could INCENTIVIZE HAVING FRIENDS IN A SOCIAL LEAGUE FOR FUN That is all, thank you for your time, thank you Seany for speaking up about your frustration 81 to HAM 6oa ![]() ![]() ![]() SMJHL GM Queen of Wiggles Code: 2 promote IIHF as part of the player creator screen, I know hockey, I live hockey, I am very educated with hockey topics in general, and I wouldn’t have picked Erik Johnson’s actual place of birth if I was at all aware of IIHF, and this is coming from someone who has plenty of friends in this league prior to me joining. Once I got into the league, I eventually switched on my own to play with friends. But this is why I struggle with this. How do you not tell someone who you recruit about nations without suggesting your own? And how is a new user supposed to know that this isn’t allowed?? And I understand IIHF was working with a tricky situation in all of this due to it becoming an issue if its abused. But this is just hope that changes happen in the future. #FreeTP ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() SMJHL GM Posting Freak 01-10-2025, 02:14 PMkahri Wrote: I put Great Britain as my birthplace because the person who recruited me (aka my SIGNIFICANT OTHER) was Great Britain. How do you not tell someone who you recruit about nations without suggesting your own? Short answer is that these rules makes it overly difficult to talk about IIHF when you're trying to talk about the nice things the SHL has going for it. Why, when I talk about how cool this community is and when I name all the nice things it does, should I mention IIHF? I'd have to chose my words very wisely in order that my initial plan of promoting this league to my friends doesn't come to bite me in the ass. In the end, rules like this are painting the IIHF in a corner, hindering its chance of being a relevant part of the SHL experience by over regulating it. Sorry for the double reply Kahri!

There is a good point to this rule. It is meant to protect the average user from being bombarded and pressured to join a country they may not nessicarily want to join.
Yes, in this case it was probably of the purest of intentions but you need to draw a line in the sand so it will not be abused by others with less innocent reasons. ![]() Sig by Lazyeye

@spidey I agree with you, there should be rules like this, I talked to frenchie and it makes sense why the rule is written the way it is, to me personally, there’s room for improvement on the wording, and there’s room for improvement to decide what is actually tampering
I personally don’t know what Daevin did, maybe it was the most egregious hiring campaign ever, but having talked to Daevin with relative frequency, he doesn’t seem like the type to rules lawyer and find loopholes. Maybe he did actually do something that steps over the line, to me the line isn’t so clear though. Which is why I bring up someone like Cake, not to throw them under the bus, and obviously there’s no ill intent, but I’ve asked questions in public spaces and cake has been extremely helpful and answered sometimes within literal seconds. So to mention in passing « some teams are less popular and worse because of it » now I as someone who is hyper competitive might not even give team British isles a chance, or team ratvia, that one little, insignificant seeming statement, could impact my whole perspective on the situation and completely change what I want to do 81 to HAM 6oa ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered S8, S9 Challenge Cup Champion
I 100% agree with you in everything you have said. I do not believe Daevin initially did anything wrong. I believe the wording should be worked on to make it a little more user friendly. But the heart and intentions of the rule is there for a good reason.
