2x IIHF+WJC Media, M + SR Recap of the IIHF and WJC Day 1
#1

Marshi: Welcome to our recap of the first day and games of the IIHF and WJC tournaments. It's me Marshi and once again at my side: Shiny Rainbow.

Shiny Rainbow: Hi there!

M: First i have to apologize because Shiny and myself failed to make any predictions on the tournament in time.

SR: We still could have made predictions on who would end up in Groups A and B when we were talking about the expansion draft and stuff. But you suddenly went off talking about some nonsense about breaking into the SHL headquarters and stuff like that. Because you couldn't cope with not being eligible to become a GM apart from not being competent enough for such a role.

M: Yeah, very helpful Shiny. Do you want me to do this alone today?

SR: Actually, that sounds like a great idea, i need to get to practice anyway. There are two tournaments to win! Thanks Marshi, bye.

M: Shiny? Shiny Wait, come back! WTF! SHINY! SHIIIIIIIIIIIINYYYYYYYYY! WTF? She actually just left.... I can't believe it. Anyway i guess i really have to do this alone today then. Let's start with the IIHF games:

Switzerland 4:0 Germany

The favorite shut out the underdog in a very uneventful game. The only real surprise here was Germany being able to hold the SOG close at 26:25 in favor of the Swiss team.

Latvia 5:2 France

France was able to out-shoot Latvia 34:27 here but was still no match for my personal favorites for the gold medal. Also 2x High Sticking, 1x Roughing, 1x Crosschecking and 1x Unsportsmanlike Conduct Good job Latvia that's what i like to see.

Norway 3:4 Finland

The reigning Gold medalists fall to Finland in a pretty boring rivalry game. But what do you expect when Adam Prpich was pretty much the only player on team Norway to show up. Biggest disappointment of the game was definitely Norway's Philipe-Eko Eel: 25 minutes of standing around like a pylon and finishing the game a -4. What a stinker of a game.

United States 6:7 (SO) Quebec

That's what i call a game! Quebec survives 26 US SOG in the first period with a 2 goal deficit followed by a game full of penalties. The US alone got called 3 times for Unsportsmanlike Conduct. But in the end the heroes name was Gwendolyn Telenn who ended up scoring both, the game tieing goal and the shootout winner! Biggest disappointment of the game: Shiny Rainbow! Zeros across the board in 12 minutes of time on ice. That's what you get for leaving me alone!

France 3:6 Great Britain

Biggest upset of the tournament so far. Is France rellay this bad now? They need to play a lot tougher. Only 2 PIM is unacceptable.

Canada 2:3 (OT) Switzerland

Most peoples gold favorite falls short in their first game. But that's what you get if you put only 7 hits on the opponent all game. Canada is just soft! Hero of the game: Literally Wizard for scoring only 25 seconds into OT!

Ireland 1:7 United States

I guess the US was mad over how they lost that first game against Quebec and absolutely slaughtered Ireland here for it. Biggest win of Day 1 almost the entire US team got on the scoreboard.

Germany 1:5 Japan

I don't know what to say here other than Germany is probably going to finish in last place without winning a single game. They are no match for any other team.

Sweden 2:4 Latvia

This is what domination looks like 37:22 in SOG for Latvia, 19 TA, they are ready for a gold medal.

I'm predicting it right here right now!

Finland 3:7 Norway

Norway claims a win in the immediate rematch and Philippe-Eko Eel bounces back with a dominant performance including scoring the first two goals for team Norway.

Sweden 6:2 Great Britain

The British may also be a candidate for last place. They got destroyed here and Sweden didn't even play that well.

Quebec 2:5 Ireland

What a stinker of a game for Quebec, they had zero chance against a dominating Irish team who out-shot them 42:21. Also only 5 Hits in total for team Quebec. They are even softer than the rest of Canada. Worst player of the game: Shiny Rainbow, just because I'm still mad at her for leaving!

Canada 6:1 Japan

Billy Herrington with the first Hattrick of the Tournement and Canada with a 79% inside the face-off circle! Do you need a faceoff coach Japan? I'm still free, you just have to pay me well.

Quebec 8:5 Germany

"Hattricks are boring, real stars score 4 times", Gwendolyn Telenn (probably). Also how can you allow 5 goals against a team as bad as Germany? I blame Shiny!

France 5:6 (SO) Czechia

What a banger of a game! 84 total SOG, 40 total hits. But in the end Nathangus McExplosion claims the win for Czechia in their lone game today in a 5 rounds shootout.

Switzerland 5:4 (SO) United States

The US managed to turn yet another complete domination first period in a shootout loss. What a comeback win by the Swiss finished off by Ace Lighning in the 6th round of the shootout.

Latvia: 3:4 (OT) Norway

Our last game for today makes me sad. Latvia out-shot Norway 36:30 but only 14 seconds into OT, Adam Prpich scores the OT winner while being on the ice shorthanded!

Alright that's it for the IIHF tournament time to declare an MVP for day 1 of the tournament and because i just couldn't make a decision i want to honor two players as MVP's:

Gwedolynn Telenn with 5 goals, 3 assists and a GWG in the SO! And Adam Prpich with 3 goals, 4 assists and a SH GWG in OT!

Alright, let's move on to the WJC!

US White 3:6 British Isles

What a battle this was. These two teams don't like each other. But in the and the British Isles claim the win while also outhitting team USW 44:27. The US however may want to make a change to their coaching staff. Two minors against the Bench in just one game should be unacceptable in such a tournament.

Rhine 5:2 US Blue

The Blue half of the US who are my personal favorites for the gold medal here did almost everything right. They out-shot their opponent 37:25, they outhit their opponent 42:24 but in the Jon-Isaac Forty-One stood on their head while Tyler Bodega looked like Swiss cheese in net until being pulled and replaced.

Sweden 4:3 Finland

3 minutes! 3 terrible minutes was all it took to give this game away for Finland. They allowed Sweden to score 3 goals in less than 3 minutes in the first and couldn't recover in an otherwise very close hard fought game. Also what kind of family is this with a bunch of Soderberg-Tremblays on both sides of this match up?

Canada Black 7:2 Czechia

After such a slaughter I'd question if Czechia should even be part of this tournament. They were outshot 54:16 and Canada Black had 30 SOG in the 2nd period alone!

Ratvia 4:6 World

If it wasn't for USB I'd pick Ratvia for the WJC as well to win gold but somehow they managed to loose against last seasons biggest loosers from team world. Worst player of the game: Shiny Rainbow, you had 1goal and 3 assists and couldn't even get 1st star of the game? Boooo you are terrible!

US White 3:6 British Isles

Same outcome for the rematch and another total hit count of 68. I could watch these 2 teams facing each other all day long. Best player of the match was 100% QCC rookie Sethastierikko Goslavechnaaliemiooketkov, 2 goals 2 assists and a +4 in only 12 minutes of ice-time. What a game for the WJC rookie.

Rhine 2:6 US Blue

My favorites claim the win in the rematch, this time also dominating team Rhine on the scoreboard. To Dejana Kaptina and Jay Dub. Both of you need to throw harder punches. Your first period fight was booooooring! Especially Jay Dub..... You can't force someone else into a fight and then don't even win it... That's soft.

Norway 3:4 Canada Black

Canada Black looks tough, they will be hard to beat for any team. 40:31 SOG, 42:21 Hits. The IIHF Team Canada could learn a thing or two from their Juniors team.

World 2:8 Ratvia

Hahahhahah, take that Shiny, Ratvia takes revenge early and often. 17:5 SOG in the first period and 6 unanswered goals after going up 1:0 left Team world with 0 chances.

Canada Red 5:2 Finland

Somehow the other Canadian team won this game despite throwing only 10 hits all game. Maybe i should call those two teams Canada Tough and Canada Soft instead of Black and Red.

Czechia 5:3 Norway

What a comeback win for Czechia after leading 2:0 and out-shooting the opponent 19:7 in the first Czechia returned the favor with 20:10 SOG and 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd.

Czechia 5:2 Finland

2 in a row. I don't know how but somehow Czechia won despite trailing in every other stat than goals on the scoreboard.

Rhine 4:3 US White

Team Rhine wins despite allowing 45 SOG, thanks to their special teams and a Dejana Kaptina SHG. How else?

Canada Red 3:0 Sweden

On the backs of QCCBOT4 Canada soft grabs another win and the first shut out of the tournament. Also doesn't have QCCBOT4 a real name now to appear more human when playing in the SHL?

That's it for the WJC Games of Day 1, now let's honor a MVP for the first day, and the choice is: QCCBOT4, posting a .967 SV% behind the Canada Soft team is also leading all goalies with 4.43 goals saved above average after only 2 games is simply an outstanding goalie performance! Well deserved MVP of day 1.

And that's it for day 1. This was a lot more work for me being alone than i had anticipated. I really need Shiny for tomorrow. If she leaves me alone tomorrow again I'll kick and bite her! Now let's see if i can find her. Bye Bye!
