NIKE KICKZ IS MOVING
We're here in Boston, MA today with Nike Kickz as he shows us around his new home in the city. After a stint in Montreal, Detroit and Manhattan, Nike has finally returned home to Boston. While most players just out of juniors and on their first contract would like to live it large, they often decide instead that living small is best. Not Nike though, he has taken on a HUGE piece of real estate in Millennium Place in downtown Boston. Nike has offered to show us around his one bedroom penthouse suite!
Millennium Place is located just down the street from Boston University's School of medicine and State Street Corporation where all of Nike's contract money is invested. As we walk the streets approaching Nike's living space, we are in absolute awe of the confidence of this cocky bastard. Seriously, how can he afford this place?
We climb the stairs to the 13th floor where Nike lives. And bridge the doorway into a long hallway. The final door along the hall is Nike's suite. We knock on the door and he answers:
"Morning folks." Nike opens the door, and boy does he look like something else. "Long night on the town last night" He says, "its REAL good to be home." We walk through the threshold and into what is a spacious and gorgeous living space. This kid is just over 20 and he's living large.
"How the hell did you get a place like this?" We asked him.
Nike replied, "Let's be honest, when I signed in Manhattan I didn't mess around with my salary and bonus figures. I decided that if I was gonna have money, I was gonna also spend money. I'm into this place for about 2.3 mill at the moment, but its all money well spent. Lets be honest, you bring a chick back here, she ain't trying to leave until the morning."
"Uhh, Nike have you looked at your bank accounts recently?"
"Sure have, and they've got enough money to go out again tomorrow night and take shots at the bar. So to be honest I'm not really worried about it. New England will pay me eventually...and as long as I've got my training and coaching paid for, which I pay for in advance, I can spend the rest on video games and useless s*** if I want to. I'm young. Who cares? Wanna have a look around?"
Nike walks us in and shows us what he calls "the heart of the house". The living room is lavishly laid out with bookshelves, fine light-leather couches, a warm electric fireplace and a view of the city of Boston. The living room opens right up to a bar that bridges the kitchen to the rest of the home. On the bar lies a "New England Wolfpack Team Rules" handbook, some sort of sandwich from the day before and Nike's wallet.
"You guys wanna see the fridge? That's how they used to do it on MTV Cribs...loved that show."
Nike opens up the fridge and it was exactly what we expected. A young male athlete needs nothing more than Gatorade and alcohol. Plenty of alcohol. There wasn't an ounce of food in the fridge. "I eat out every night and eat my lunches over at the rink with the team nutritionist. This is all I need around here." He says.
"On to the bedroom I guess?"
We walked down a short hallway and past a closet or two of minimal interest until we reach a doorway. Nike opened the doorway into a wonderfully large bedroom suite. The windows had a fantastic view of the city and the bed was large enough for 4 or 5 individuals to sleep in. While Nike hopped onto the bed and decided to lie there, we took the opportunity to explore the bathroom attached to his suite. The marble floors and bath were spotless, the toilet...well...not so much. But the bathroom was well lit and there was even some abstract art in over the toilet.
"Nike, what's with the art in here?" We asked.
"No f***in' idea" he responded, "it came with the place. Keeps me company in there."
We finished up in the bedroom and walked down the same hallway out into the kitchen.
"Well, that's about it." Nike said, "If you wanna see anything else you'd have to come down to the rink. That's where I spend the rest of my time."
Nike walked us to the doorway and showed us out. I can't imagine its the last time well be visiting a newly purchased residence of Nike Kickz. Well, I expected a nice collection of kickz man, where's the closet full of beautiful nikes, jordans, adidas, reebok? Come on dude. If you're spending money, spend it on something actually awesome. You're so not cool anymore.
