First I want to say, great game Canada. It was well fought and you put up a great fight along with Sweden and our other IIHF opponents.

Ireland is well known for pots of gold, delicious beer, and now an IIHF Gold Medal.

The Irish defeated Canada in the S23 Gold Medal Game to claim superiority in the IIHF by a famous score for all Irish men and women 3-2.

The significance of this number comes from the first time the Irish defeated Canada, as you guess by a score of 3-2, while Ireland was still in it's infancy and growing as a nation.

While Ireland received no love during predictions from people in the IIHF by being ranked on average of 9.2 by other members. only love from Bojo Biscuit who ranked Ireland at #1 along with 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, and 11, and Pedro Sarantez, who ranked Ireland at #2 heading into the tourney.

Ireland was overlooked by many, but the members of Ireland knew their time of greatness was on the horizon. Another year of development for Ireland proved to be the deciding factor after an early loss to Germany in last years IIHF. What they say is you have to taste defeat before you taste victory and victory tastes like Gold.

We have a very young core, with mostly S20 draftees and younger. We will lose a defenseman or two before the next IIHF, but there are guys ready to step into those roles, so I expect Ireland to be near the top of the pack for a long time.

Key to our victory was scoring more goals than our opponent. Wink

Honestly though, I think we have a great combination of players and because of that our team has great chemistry. Tanner had a heck of a Tourney as well and that always helps.

Sweden is not better because 44 is a sieve against the Irish. Wink

But then again, so are the other goalies. Tongue

Honestly, not that mad. Maybe disappointing, but Canada and Ireland have played great games in the past and both teams had a real chance of winning the game. Plus, he never gets mad when i gloat... what a dick. Wink
