Today we sit down with the blue line defender of the Prince George Firebirds, Cynthia Taylor. The Firebirds are coming off of a rough 5-2 loss to the Vancouver Whalers in game two of the SMJHL Playoffs. Cynthia, what do the Firebirds have to do to get back into this series after being down 2-0?
We have to get better defensively and play harder as a team, I'm not playing as well as I think I should, I'm more disappointing in myself not the team, we need to tie this up now, this feels like a game 7 already, we can't get too emotional otherwise just like last time, when my teammate Rick Chleb took that late penalty and was taken out of the game. What are your expectations heading into the S25 SHL Draft? Not too high or anything, I've been contacted by a couple of teams already but I expect to be a late pick, nothing besides that, I just hope I get drafted to a good team which is active What do you have to work on the most for next season? To learn how to take my shifts better, I had the 2nd most ice time in the league for a while and I was tired the whole time, as the season progressed, I learned how to make better defensive plays and while it didn't help as much as I hoped it did, I'm happy how I progressed How have you enjoyed being a Firebird so far? Do you like your team? I've enjoyed it greatly, despite that I do talk with many Whalers, Knights, and other members, Prince George is my home. I've grown to like our team, Brumm always fooling around, Robinson always fighting, Mario being a quiet guy most of the time. I've enjoyed my time here How would you describe your style of hockey? Playoff hockey, I didn't do what I would hope in the playoffs but I felt like I did quite a bit, I bruised the body a lot and took shots on net as much as I could. I frustrated the other team and that is my goal, I feel like I was able to stop a bunch of Whalers several times and I felt like I helped get it to game 6 at the very least. Do you think Rick Chleb will continue to be a good defensive partner for you moving forward? His Progression has stopped it seems. I'm not going to lie, no, while he can still play defense somewhat well, he doesn't have the skating, passing to enter the SHL, I hope I'm wrong and he improves but at this rate, it might be a SMJHL career for Chleb Why should an SHL GM be interested in drafting you? I'm a blue line defender who can still jump in the play, and I'm very active when I'm off work I've made some friends in the SHL already and I'm getting constant help from those friends. All I can ask back for a GM is to have some patience with me and you will be rewarded Are you interested in being drafted by any specific SHL team? Perhaps Toronto and Calgary, I know a lot of North Stars and I heard that their defence prospect pool is a little shallow at the moment so I hope I can make it better when I make the jump into the SHL Calgary is somewhat similar, I know some people there, and I think I can help the defence prospect pool, they got swept by the LA panthers so I want to come to Calgary to maybe change that and win a Challenge cup. How have the Whalers improved? Are you shocked at them raising their game in the playoffs? No I'm not, I saw they were getting better, they don't have the defence to have those Overtime battles which we are more likely to win, we are strong in the backend but not strong enough to handle 2 lines that can dominate us. We can handle their 3rd and 4th line just fine, we focused on working extra hard during those shifts but in the end, we couldn't make it. They were desperate to not lose in the first round, we have rivalries between us and we don't want to lose either but I think we were overwhelmed early. Top 3 worst ways to celebrate a game winning overtime goal? Hmmmm Just showing off, there isn't much to say besides that, all that does is make you lose your edge and make them pissed off to try even harder Whats it like to have a relationship against a member on the team your Firebirds are playing against? I'm not sure what some people think but it doesn't change your decision to play hockey, it drives us harder so we can one up each other, it's is fun to target each other, in the end, we both just play hockey for our team Any chance of you two dropping the gloves any time soon? Not Likely as I would break his cute nose
