Unable to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, the Raiders were faced with crushing defeat and demoralization. The team primarily composed of rookies was having trouble to not crumble under the pressure. After a long speech by their coach and their GMs, they were ready to face the Kelowna Knights in their home.

Since the beginning of the season, the games never really started well for the Raiders. This game was not unlike the others and three minutes into the period Vinny Marino was sent to the penalty box for tripping one of the Knights player. The power play units of Kelowna were, however, not able to crack the special team of the Raiders. When the two minutes were up, Halifax had a golden opportunity to score the first goal when Miervaldis Frīdrihs Ozoliņš was a bit too much insistent when blocking the Raiders attack and was sent to the sin bin for interference. However, like Halifax, the Knights Penalty kill unit was solid on the ice. The scoreboard was updated for the first time around seventeen minutes in the game by John Langabeer. He took advantage of the 4v4 play after Trucker Grogan and Mike Izzy were both attributed a penalty for high sticking and holding respectively. It’s only back at equal strength that the Raiders were able to beat Sebastian Thompson and equalize the score.

The second period didn’t see any goal light turned on, but the referee had a bit of work. Not even a minute in, Dwayne Wyder was seen hooking one of the Knight players and was sent to the box. At the five minutes mark in the period, it was Nour Harrak’s turn to be seen holding down one of the Raiders and had to take the direction of the sin bin. Three minutes before the end of the period, Grogan received his second penalty of the night for tripping and was attributed a two minute. During the 20 minutes, Jordin FourFour Jr. received 13 shots and blocked all of them while Thompson also didn’t let any of the 8 shots on him go through.

However, Slaughter let his goaltender down during the beginning of the third period when he received a penalty of holding one of Halifax’s player’s stick. It was the big defenseman Grogan that managed to break Thompson’s wall and gave his team a lead at the start of the last leg. Following this play, however, Grogan wasn’t able to stay out of the penalty box and was given his third penalty of the night for holding around the middle of the period. The penalty kill unit managed to keep the Raiders’ lead. Clint Eastwood might have cost his team the momentum and the game when at the fifteen minutes mark, he was sent to the sin bin for holding. After an hard road trip and an harder stretch of game at home, the Raiders were finally able to snap the losing streak and celebrate their victory in front of their fan.

The unsung hero of the match for the Raiders was Trucker Grogan. Despite receiving 3 penalties in the game, he was able to work hard and score game winning goal. During his 20 minutes of ice time, he blocked 3 shots, directed 3 pucks toward the other team goalie and landed one hit.
