SHL - this week Quick hits SMJHL edition. Today’s top stories:
-Detroit, Detroit. -Kelowna rookies make statement -4 games of Gareth Rush. We start with the 4 games of Gareth Rush. The big story before and after the draft was that of Gareth Rush. It seemed to dominate the headlines almost overnight on sports talk shows everywhere. Then came the suspension and since, all has seemed to go quiet. His return to the team has also gone somewhat overlooked. There is maybe just cause for this. His stats since returning show a young man trying to find his rhythm. He’s played in 4 games this season so far and mustered 4 shots in 4 games. He has no points and averages just over 10 a half minutes a game. Hit 4 hits in 4 games raises the question whether he has adjusted to the SMJHL game. His face-off percentage tho is a solid 51%. No lies tho, if your St.Louis, you want your 3rd line centre to find his game quick, even if your team is not struggling at the moment. Kelowna, what to say about the team that many expected a long rebuild from. Kelowna sit second in the league and a lot of thanks goes to their rookies. 7-1 in 8 games and a + 8, Kelowna are off to a great start. That being said, their goalie, Scott Foster, has been playing well above expected. He's gone 7-0 to start the season with a save percentage of 0.874 and a goals against average of 3.25. How long can Kelowna ride these numbers from their goalie?Their rookies however are a different story. While no one really talked about the Kelowna draftees (see Gareth Rush Promotion material), there now are 3 Kelowna rookies in the top 4. Nolan Sawchuck leads all rookies with 11 points followed by teammate Nickolas Klaus who was 8. Sanyi Kocsis is 4th, tied for 3rd with 7 points. Sawchuck is also tied for the team lead in points with point machine Vladislav Konstantin. Kelowna's rookies are making an early statement that they are among, if not the best in the SMJHL. I’m sure some SHL GMs are taking notice early. Detroit, Detroit. The Falcons are off to one of the best starts in franchise history. the 8-1 Falcons lead the SMJHL and are doing it in style with a +22 differential in 9 games. 42 goals for in under 10 games is a fantastic way to start. Last season Detroit finished 5th with a 26-22 -2 record. They were a + 3 differential and beat Kelowna before falling to St.Louis. Cedric Robinson has been lights out early in goal for the Falcons and Fantobeans once again leads the team in points. If all continues, Detroit should have the best season in club history, and maybe a season to remember! This has been SHL - this weeks Quick hits - SMJHL edition. until Next time. || || || || || || |
