DOUBLE MEDIA WEEK
305 Words We recently spoke with Ricardo Cotalay, a defenseman who was drafted in the 7th round, 68th overall by the Anchorage Armada in yesterday's S45 SMJHL Entry Draft. ![]() Q: Were you surprised about getting drafted? A: I had a feeling that I was going to get drafted this season, especially after being ranked so highly in the Combine. Still, you never know what could happen, so I was just hoping that I would get picked, and eventually in the 7th round I was lucky enough to be selected by Anchorage. Q: How do you feel about Anchorage selecting you? A: It's definitely a great organization that they have going on over there and I am excited to be a part of what they are building. I had some people from their front office speak with me prior to the draft, and I really liked what they had to say. We both had similar visions on my development as a player, so hopefully I can help them win a championship. And now a little background on Cotalay and how he got to where he is today: Cotalay grew up in Long Beach, California. He played for the LA Jr Kings until his Bantam years, where he chose to take his career to the Anaheim Jr Ducks organization. He completed the rest of his youth career with the Ducks, which included winning a State Championship his last two seasons, as well as winning the National Championship in his last season. In his final season, Cotalay totaled 114 points, 74 goals and 40 assists in 67 games. A great offensive threat from the blueline, it was not a surprise that he was selected by the Armada. Cotalay hopes that he can continue his offensive prowess in the SMJHL and eventually find a spot on a team in the SHL. ![]() SHL GM Me go boats
