Borůvka Banananák: A Player Profile
#1

His first name was thought of when his father, Honza Banananák, fell in a blueberry bush (Borůvka is Czech for blueberry). His last name was passed down from a long lineage of Banananáks who were originally simply named Banana, but needed to feel more Czech and added the "nák" to the end of it later on. Thus, the shooting prodigy literally named Blueberry Banana was born.

Born in Prague, the young winger learned hockey at an early age. Despite being a very small player, he was able to rise through the ranks with his really good shot and penchant for skating. He played though the Czech junior program, but did not progress any further.

The reason was his family was forced to leave The Czech Republic for Canada due to him accidentally tripping Prime Minister Andrej Babiš on a Sunday walk while tying his shoe. He was so small the Czech leader did not see him and fell into the river! The Czech Government immediately considered this an act of treason and branded Borůvka Banananák as an enemy of the state. His mother and father had no choice but to secede to Canada and flee. In order to keep Borůvka from being spotted by customs, they had to shove him into a suitcase and fly him in cargo.

Because of the lack of pressure and the temperature changes in the cargo bay of the plane, Borůvka almost died in transit. Thankfully he was able to survive due to his layers of fat (which he has since shed due to his rigorous hockey program) and was virtually unharmed upon exiting the suitcase . It did surprise the airport attendants in Canada when they saw him jump out of the baggage and out into the concourse, but their only response was "Sohrry." All in all Borůvka did alright for his first trip across international waters.

Upon entering Canada the scoring winger was able to join a Canadian junior team, but was accidentally placed in the mini-mite juniors due to his size.

Canada hockey officials realized right away that something was wrong when the supposed mini-mite hockey player started firing shots through the net and almost killing two kids with straight helmet shots. Upon further investigation they realized their mistake and put him in regular Mites instead, despite the winger being 14 years old. Once again the winger ran amok, scoring 50 goals in his three mite games. This time the Canadian officials said "Sohrry" and finally put him in Midget where he belonged.

He still did really well, scoring 30 goals in the next 19 games, being named MVP of the league and taking the team to a playoff championship. Upon this he was recruited to numerous midget minor teams but decided to turn it down and become a banana farmer like his father. The Banananáks had been able to buy some land and start their farm which gave him the motivation to quit the sport.

Two years later he was recruited by SMJHL officials and was inspired to start working out again. However due to his really extended period time off his main attributes such as checking and skating were terrible, which made him look very badly to the scouts. He was almost not asked to come back until he started the shooting drills and showed them that his time on the farm improved his arm strength and his slapshot in the process. He pulled a Fulton Reed and broke a pane of glass as well.

With his great shot, he was asked back to skate with the other prospects again, and despite his inability in terms of skating and physical play which all deteriorated over his semi-retirement, he could make a difference. But teams probably won't want to draft him because he is kind of a flight risk. If he wants to go back to the farm or his father says to, he may just say "Sohrry" and bid his hockey career adieu for the last time. But we don't think he will, will he?

Player Attribute Grades:

Checking: Really small so that means he could get pushed around a lot. I don't think the players in this league are little mini-mite guys. Just shoot the puck fast so nobody hits you! F
Fighting: We already talked about his size. Seems like a good enough reason not to fight, so we will give him a pass on this. A+
Discipline: He is a farmer, so he knows a hard days work. This means he will be more in tune with getting up early and hitting the fields better than anyone.A
Skating: Very slow right now because he is way out of shape, but if he keeps working out he will be a lot better and will utilize it as a big strength. Just hope he doesn't retire and go back to the farm early.B
Strength: Again, he is really short and small. Not going to knock anybody off the puck so this will be a weakness for the little guy.  B+
Endurance: Farm work is tough. He would have to pick those blueberries and bananas on the farm all day and he had to be ready to work from sun up till sun down. Doesn't look like it translates to hockey much but it will have to at some point we think. We think so at least.  C+
Durability: Little guys have a bigger risk of getting hurt because their little bones can't take it. Hope he keeps his head up or else he might not even be able go back to the farm if his career ends early. F
Puck Handling: Isn't used to handling the puck like he used to since he has been out of the game, but is learning fast. Hopefully will be back to his old self where he was scoring 50 goals in 3 games. Yes mini-mite but shut up.   B
Face Offs: Don't let this little guy take any faceoffs. Keep him on the wing or else. F
Passing: May be a stigma for wingers but he doesn't pass much so he didn't even know how to do it before stopping. So he could learn with a good coach, but don't expect a lot of assists. Probably nothing but goals for him. At least for now. D-
Scoring: This guy is so small but the shot is so big! Going to put pucks through the net and maybe take heads off. For some reason farming made his muscles go bazonk and he has a "Rookie of the Year" arm where he hits doctors in the face and they say "Funky Butlovin" and stuff. Better score a lot of goals, though, cause this is the only thing that makes him elite! A++++++
Defense: Someone told him to backcheck once and he said that he is okay, so he doesn't really do that kind of thing. Again, just scoring. He likes to score and shoot the puck really hard at things like the net and boards and people. Okay, maybe not people, as far as we know he is just a nice guy who doesn't play any defense so there is no reason to even expect him on PK and things. F-----
Penalty Shot: If he goes into a penalty shot he is probably going to shoot goalies into the net because he doesn't have any moves yet. He did once destroy a mini-mite kid's equipment and made him cry. He probably won't make anyone cry at this level. Well, maybe. His shot is pretty crazy.A?
