Jake Peralta joined late, he's a total unkown prospect with an unclear upside. General Managers will be very weary to pick a retired New York Police detective. Who never really took his job seriously, was he great at solving crime and catching bad guys hell yeah he was. However, when it came to being professional he was the farthest thing from it. He has turned his attention to hockey now, and that makes teams very weary. Which is why we expect him to be the last pick of the draft this coming season.
For the team who finally calls his name, here is what they should expect. He has vision on the ice that is unmatched, he can break down the right play much like he did crimes. He is a very strong skater, and continues to improve in that area. His ability to read the man across from him gives him a natural ability to win face offs, much like he was able to read criminals intentions. Much like a crime fighter trying to protect the streets from criminals, Jake is strong in his own zone defending his net from attackers. His ability to handle the puck, comes from his natural ability to handle a gun well chasing down a criminal. These are all skills that come naturally to him thanks to his previous career, these skills will continue to grow as he learns to play hockey more. His endurance is solid, what else could we expect from a person who made a living chasing criminals through the streets of New York city.
When it comes to weaknesses, Jake like every young prospect comes with flaws. For one, for an ex cop he is not overly physical he's actually rather lanky. For a man who used to handle a gun, he can not hit the broad side of a barn as a shooter do not expect him to put up a ton of goals. He wont fight very often, well he would rumble with criminals he does not feel the need to fight in hockey and will typically avoid throwing down.
With the draft right around the corner and Jake Peralta just recently declaring scouts are rushing around trying to find any information they possibly can on this kid. Do not expect to hear his name called early, it will typically come if at all in the very late rounds. Unless someone really gambles on the hopes that this kid who has shown nothing, and signed up late can really overtake those who have been around longer.
Jake Peralta has not preference where he lands, he will just play his game and try to become the best player he possibly can become. He does not expect top line minutes, or even a big role he knows he will have to earn his role. He worked hard to become a top New York police department detective, after years of being a beat cop. This shows teams his willingness to work and get his hands dirty.
