The start of the season is upon us, and Viktor Marius is out to show the league that he means business this season. The second line winger comes into the season holding the Hot Potato Trophy, and he isn't happy about it. He's on a headhunting mission from the opening faceoff, and finally serves up a Hot Potato Hit at 11:40 of the opening period, unloading on an unsuspecting Mikhail Lokitonov. Not satisfied with that hit, Marius finished the game with 6 hits in total. It looks like he's serious about staying away from the Potato.

Mikhail Lokitonov, the first line center for Toronto, graciously accepted the trophy, it looked like he even had an acceptance speech ready for after the game. When he got to the bench, his coach pointed out that it isn't a good thing to have. A bit upset, Lokitonov decided to pass it to Eric Vanderberg after just 1:12 of possession. When asked about it after the game, he stated he just wants a trophy finally.

Eric Vanderberg, third pair defense for Buffalo, wasn't happy with his acquisition of the Hot Potato. He was busy chirping the Toronto bench the whole time he had it, and it seemed to really consume his whole first period. He finally saw his opportunity to pass it, and leveled Shaquille Derisraka. He finished the game with the one hit.

Shaquille Derisraka, the center of Toronto's third line, didn't understand the concept of hot potato. Acquiring it in the first period, he made it a point to hold onto it for the whole second period as well. Carrying it into the third period, he accidently bumped into Charles Walker and transfered the potato. It was his only hit of the game.
