The Contract

"I signed an ELC with Chicago based on a few factors, and I’ll tell it to you straight, I didn’t have any other offers on the table. One team that’s not a contender offered me 5m on a ELC before the draft while allowing me to be one of the main stars on the Knights. There were no other offers. I could have literally been set for half a season from that deal. I’ll play the top spot as a center on the Knights and be the best, so why will I stay with the Syndicate despite the lack of money the can give me? I put together a pretty terrible season in my rookie year and believe me it will only get better. I was kind of tired of getting drafted each season since it’s so draining. Having to enter every offseason with seamless negotiations while being certain you will be contacted with a generic offer on the table. If I took a multiple year deal I was concerned that I wouldn’t have more money available for me in the future. The Syndicate also drafted Akira Ren, who I thought would be a good piece to take huge discount. I was wrong."

"Now with the salary cap increasing THE SAME SEASON that I signed my contract with a fair warning that the cap would increase, I claim that this is not a breach on my rights as a player and I want my contract to extend. It’s ridiculous seeing all these big money contracts being handed out to other rookies when I was drafted before them. I want to benefit from what I contribute and I was a fresh new contract (next year). I’m not able to be a free agent right now and refuse to show up for Chicago Syndicate practices until I get called up to the team. There was a clear amount of transparency for the players negotiating while GMs and others had an idea that the salary structure would change. If possible, I am even willing to take a cut this season in exchange for a greater contract down the line."

"Rough, rough, rough season. I stayed in Kelowna because that was the team who first drafted me. Where I thought Kalevolaripaavo Käspertommevisnapuu was here to support me, he just ended up eating up my minutes and role. I played the least amount of minutes I have since entering the SMJHL. I haven’t played these few minutes in, well ever. It was pretty ridiculous that I didn’t get a single minute on the power play, all these other teams slant PP time for their rookies but we don’t, while I’m the lowest rated PP producing skater of S50? Seems counter productive. I would have been fine with this if we actually won the finals, and the request I made at the start of that series got put into effect never. It took losing a cup for them to understand me? After they lost Alexsandr Scherbak to time? I stayed here because I thought the team would be committed to me and my top competition gets released. Frustrating season all around. I hope I never have to go through this kind of situation again. I didn’t go them at a trade deadline, and won’t. I want to stay in Kelowna and Chicago."

S49 WJC

"My frustration never ends. I totally get team Canada’s love for putting me down and not letting me operate as a player. I was rated the worst power play specialist in the league last season and didn’t get any PP time for the tournament. The only forwards with less time played than me on the ice ARE 200 TPE ROOKIES! FRESH FACED 200 TPE ROOKIES! I’m starting to feel like they don’t respect me enough as a player to give me a more important role when I was clearly putting up numbers despite being limited. I worked hard this past season and I think management sees me as someone who has been making progress. Every other player that came in around the same time as me hasn’t gotten their shot at the top spot and haven’t brought back gold. I was in a limited role and we didn’t even medal this time, just beyond frustrating. I want my chance as the top player for Canada and I GUARANTEE a medal. I could bring home Gold to Canada. We shouldn’t be losing to the British Isles of all teams. WE’RE NOT SUPPOSE TO LOSE TO THE BRITISH ISLES."

S49 Draft

"Extremely happy that the team drafted me with the 5th overall selection in the draft. A lot of hopeful future goats were there for the taking but it seems that the team agreed with me. It’s part of the reason why I want the contract extended. I have fond memories of the Knights carrying me on their back since I’m hopeless without them, but then I get reminded that I had a conspiring coach that tried to play me in the playoffs and keep my role the same. Acceptable. I think there are a lot of real talents here, not like Sins who didn’t pan out as expected … Or Xena … Or like a bunch of the Armada draftees. I am literally the most active user they have ever produced. I feel like players like Sam Michaud fell too far and hope he gets treated well in Hamilton. Honestly a lot of the guys fell a bit further than I would have liked or ended up in strange organizations like Calgary. Mike Izzy is literally not even human anymore."

S50

"It’s the year of RS1. I hope I get my contract renewed or I want the league to personally remove me from RFA. Maybe even have Kelowna give me the captaincy for no reason at all other than the fact I complained in the media about it. But to the topic at hand! I, Ryan Shepard, will get a Holmes nomination and be recognized as one of the best forwards in S50 because it’s DESTINY! When people look back during S100 to the S50 season they will see my numbers pop out of the screen. JODAN. S50 will be the season of RS1.

But, no, really. Extend my contract."
