TEAM SWITZERLAND ROSTER ANNOUNCEMENT
A lot of you will probably think: "This guy is not @Segi, what's he doing announcing the Team Switzerland IIHF Roster?" And you're right. I'm not @Segi, I'm just another ordinary teammember of Team Switzerland looking for a gold medal in the upcoming IIHF tournament. But to get that medal, I need teammates. @Segi did a wonderful job of compiling a roster for our IIHF campaign, and informed us he could not express how happy he was about the fantastic group of people with his own words. Therefore, he asked me to use my words and see how far I got. I graciously accepted the job, and here we are now. Without further ado, I hereby present to you: The Team Switzerland roster for the upcoming IIHF tournament. The Goalies #01: Tibuk Soonika @chetib This S46 stand-up goalie from Canada transferred to Team Switzerland in S47. He was the starting goalie for the Chicago Syndicate this season, who went out on a narrow defeat against the later champions Manhattan Rage in round 2 of the playoffs. Soonika posted a 0.896 save percentage in the post season, allowing 22 goals on 211 shots in 7 games. In the regular season he got the second most wins in games where he was the starter and posted a save percentage of 0.916. Soonika will once again be the starting goalie for team Switzerland, and his performance will be vital to their success in this tournament. #42: Markus Tegernako @KlusteR Switzerland's second goalie didn't make this season's play-offs. As a rookie starter for the Minnesota Chiefs, he posted a 0.910 save percentage in the regular season, but saw his team fall 7 points short of the SHL post season. He's still young, and having the second most minutes played in the league will definitely help him develop into a future starting role for the Swiss National Team. He's coming into this tournament as the backup to solid starter Soonika, but the Swiss will be pleased to see Tegernako challenge Soonika in the years to come and will be very happy to have a solid back up in case Soonika has an off-day. The Defensemen #15: Mathias Seger (A) @Segi Our current Federation Head, National Team GM and one of our alternate captains, Mathias Seger can only be described as the backbone and thriving force behind Team Switzerlands success. After leading the team to a silver medal in S51, he will now be looking for more success and to bring the gold medal back home to Switzerland in the last season of STHS IIHF Hockey. Seger plays for the Minnesota Chiefs, where he lead the team in both penalty minutes and power play goals in the regular season. He is one of the oldest, most experienced players on the team, and will be looking to lead this seasons Swiss defense to medal-winning glory again. #78: FR Finn-Rhys @FinnRhys Two-way Defenseman Finn-Rhys finished second in their conference and third in the league with his team, the Edmonton Blizzard. Finn-Rhys is a technically strong defenseman, with a good pair of hands and more than decent skating ability. His focus is playing the puck, not the opponents' body which shows in his low number hits during the season. He's a valuable top 4 defenseman for team Switzerland, and his fans and teammates will be counting on some strong blueline performances. #13: Daniel Kuster @kuschy Coming off a strong regular season with the Colorado Raptors, which he ended just under a point a game at 48 points and a +15 plus/minus, the post-season was somewhat disappointing for Daniel Kuster. Their second round loss to the St Louis Scarecrows will hurt a little, despite St Louis making it all the way to the finals. The Toronto North Stars prospect might make the step up to the SHL next season. And he is one of the players who will be competing in the WJC with team DACH as well. He joins the Swiss IIHF squad for the fourth time, and so far has shown tremendous progression with every new season. #21 Ursin Zimmermann @UrsinZ Coming off a personally somewhat disappointing regular season with the Anaheim Outlaws, which he ended at only 15 points and a -20 plus/minus, the post-season made him forget those stats pretty quicky. They never got in any real problems on their way to the four star cup, and their run included a clean sweep of the The Toronto North Stars prospect might make the step up to the SHL next season. And he is one of the players who will be competing in the WJC with team DACH as well. He joins the Swiss IIHF squad for the fourth time, and so far has shown tremendous progression with every new season. #61 Noah Tedla @tedlamotors This S48 defense is relatively new to the Swiss team. Last season was the first season on the team for the American-born player. This top-4 defenseman had bit of a rough season with the Minnesota Chiefs, but will be hoping for more luck and better performances with the Swiss IIHF squad this season. #09 Danila Zhernov @iOBESE Zhernov is another recent addition to the Swiss National Team, taking up the Swiss jersey after transferring from Ukraine in S51. The Blizzard prospect played for Kelowna in the SMJHL this season, where the usually defensively focused player managed to pick up 43 points. He also lead the team in shots blocked, which suits his playing style a bit more. The Forwards #81 Nicolaj Muller @esilverm One of the oldest, strongest and most experienced players on this team. Nicolaj Muller has been playing with the Swiss team since his SMJHL rookie season and has seen some great personal success in past tournaments. Even though his regular and post-season weren't very productive, the two-way forward has been and will continue to be one of the most important players for Switzerland. #84 Slap McShotty @bbjygm Slap McShotty has been the top center of the Swiss team for the last few seasons. He was visibly struggling with his production for the New England Wolfpack this season, and they missed the play-offs on a tie-breaker, but we expect a lot from him out on the ice for Team Switzerland again. #11 Lallo Selman © @BDB29 One of the best players on this team, both on the ice and in the lockerroom, this Canadian-born winger will go into his third year as the captain of Team Switzerland. Selman definitely has the superstar-quality the Swiss will need in their gold medal-run, judging by his +22 plus/minus rating while being on the ice for 1,265 minutes for the Chicago Syndicate. All of Switzerland is anxious to see him continue his strong SHL season and carry that form into the IIHF tournament. #18 Luca Veccelli @Symmetrik SHL rookie Luca Veccelli will be thrilled with how his first SHL season turned out. His own production wasn't absolutely stellar, though 16 points in 50 regular season games is far from bad, winning the cup in your rookie season is definitely something to be very happy about. He has tasted cup success with the Manhattan Rage, hopefully sobered up by now and will now be eager to add a gold medal in IIHF to his collection as well. #33 Elijah Jones @Toivo This Mexican-born member of the Swiss lockerroom He has already proven his worth in the last two IIHF tournaments and in his first two seasons in the SHL with the Los Angeles Panthers. He has the potential to be one of the top scorers of this team and if we want to reach the medal round, we will need to see him scoring some points. #42 Anthony Archer @Zach Anthony Archer has not developed quite as well as hoped in the last seasons, but nevertheless, he will be an important player in the Swiss offensive squad in this season and in the future. He is playing on the Tampa Bay Barracuda in the SHL, which is a young team with some promissing prospects, and will rellish the chance to taste some success again with the Swiss National Team. #34 Daniel Bischoff (A) @dylanjj37 Bischoff has shown another great season with the Armada. The defending four star cup champions didn't manage to prolong their championship, but Bischoff managed to rank near the top of the points leader table anyway. Next season, we will most likely see him play in the SHL, but before then, we can see him in action in the IIHF and his final season in the WJC tournament. Bischoff is a very important piece of the puzzle for the future of team Switzerland. He is also our second alternate captain, and the best Dylan on the team. #15 Mitchell van der Heijden @bluesfan55 Another young player on this team, Mitchell van der Heijden will also compete in the upcoming WJC, as well as the IIHF tournament. Van der Heijden ranked second in points for the Anchorage Armada, right behind Daniel Bischoff. When these two players got on the ice together these past two seasons, magic happened. And we can expect the magic to continue in the IIHF tournament, when both of them will gear up together again. #12 Cal Labovitch @Mutedfaith Coming in hot from a high scoring SMJHL season with the Detroit Falcons, Cal Labovitch will be looking to bring some of that energy to the IIHF this season. In his second IIHF tournament, everybody expects the young setup man to pick up his first point in his international seniors career. He'll also be a part of the WJC squad for team DACH, and wants to bring home the gold in both tournaments this season. #09 Nick Connolly (Rookie) @shutdown Born in the United States of America, Nick Connolly only recently transferred to Switzerland. The sniper playing on the left wing is another Chicago Syndicate player. He bagged 31 points on their third line this season, and will be loolking for more icetime and points in the upcoming IIHF tournament. His goal scoring ability is an aspect the Swiss team was really looking for, and everyone on the team is eager to see what this new guy can bring to the team in his first ever IIHF tournament with Team Switzerland. #14 William Hartmann (Rookie) @"thecanadiancanuck" A true rookie, William Hartmann got picked in the first round of the S52 SMJHL Draft by the Vancouver Whalers. He's one of the strongest prospects in his draft class and a very physical player. Together with the strong defensive core of the Swiss team, Hartmann will do his best to keep the team defensively responsible. And despite his rookie status, I'm sure a physical guy like Hartmann will not shy away from a hit on the opponents star player, or be impressed by any of the big shots on the other teams. Conclusion This concludes the S52 IIHF Team Switzerland roster. A team that will be out there looking to beat last seasons efforts and performance and bring home the gold medal. Given that the roster is pretty much intact, and the majority of players has grown a lot stronger than they were when they came home wearing silver medals, it’s far from unlikely they will complete their mission and make their country proud. Compared to last year, we have two brand new forwards joining the squad; William Hartmann as a true rookie, fresh from his first SMJHL season, and Nick Connolly as a transfer from the USA. Both are looking good out on the ice and if they continue to develop this way we can expect great things from them in the Swiss jersey. Unfortunately, that also means we had to say goodbye to Ty Hoover and Rick Bobby. Hoover ended his career on a high after picking up the silver medal with Team Switzerland last season. Rick Bobby unfortunately didn’t develop as expected and has now been surpassed by other, younger, players. Below you’ll find a comprehensive list of all players on the roster. I wish all the other teams out there good luck in competing for the silver medal.

I have to correct a mistake that has happened with our roster. This is entirely my fault, I sent muted some wrong info. Of course, also on our roster is Rocco Berni @Blues. Sorry you didn't get to enjoy a nice write up with the rest of the team.
