Today the Detroit Falcons defeated the Maine Timber by a score of 3-1. This brings Detroit to 16-21-3 for a total of 35 points and drops Maine to 15-24-0 for 30 points. Had this game gone the other way, the two teams would have been separated by just one point. The hero of the game was Edward Williams who scored two goals including the game winner. Jmac NCheese was also a star of the game recording an assist. When approached after the game for an interview, Edward Williams was quick to point out that the media had slammed him and his team recently for their fall off in production so he wanted to prove that they were still fighting and that the author of that article could "go f*#k himself". When told that his game rating was a 69, Williams just had one word to say, "nice". "The team has really come together these last couple weeks, we feel like we have something to prove to the league that we are not going to go down without a fight" said defenseman Jack Kanoff who managed an assist and a plus two rating in 22 minutes of ice time. Strangely, when he was told his game rating was also 69, he had the same quote, "nice".
A Jobin was quick to praise his teammates for the defensive performance they put on to hold Maine to just one goal on 25 shots. "The guys are pissed, they are hungry, and they are sacrificing their bodies to make sure we keep the puck out of the net. They make my job easy, Mags, Joe, Kek, Jack, Kimi, and Guy all showed up tonight". He praised Joseph Fantobens particularly for blocking three shots tonight which he knows hurts. While deflecting the praise is just par for the course for Jobin, you can't overlook his role in keeping the puck out of the net for most of the night. He has been on a hot streak and has been a major driver in the recent surge that Detroit has shown. The players all hinted that they had a players only meeting last week to talk over how they had sucked so bad. Taking some hard looks in the mirror was good for them as they feel loose and ready to compete. We'll see if there is enough time left in the season for them to make a run at retaining the cup. Tig Murphy, team GM had come under some fire from the media this season for the drastic fall off in team performance, however every player we talked to said that it had nothing to do with Tig, it was on them to make it happen on the ice. Guy O'Shea said, "The GM isn't playing the game, he isn't making the mistakes we've been making. That's on us. We said what needed to be said to each other and are going to break ourselves to win another championship for the city of Detroit".
