#1

Work is hella slow, and I'm hella bored, and I've been inspired by this WFT to look more into this topic. May or may not do a second part on the western race, but for now I'll show my homerisms and focus on the Eastern Conference Playoff race specifically in regards to the Presidents Trophy Race, aka the Race for the Top Seed in the Eastern Conference. Also, sort of brought to you by the SHN, mostly Luke. I'm just their HR guy, but today I was hella bored.

Current Standings

1. Buffalo (31-6-2, 64 points, 11 games left)
2. Hamilton (28-8-2, 58 points, 12 games left)

Game 39: San Francisco
A competitive game to begin Hamilton's home stretch, but should see the Steelhawks pick up an easy 2 points as they continue to overwhelm almost very team in the league.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 29-8-2

***Gap is 4 points***

Game 40: Minnesota
Stampede should roll, as Minnesota continues to descend to the basement of the Western Conference.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 32-6-2

Game 40: Minnesota
Oddly enough, both teams take on Minnesota in what is their 40th game of the season, and like Buffalo above, Hamilton should cruise to a complete, dominant win over an over-matched Chiefs team.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 30-8-2

***Gap is 4 points***

Game 41: Hamilton at Buffalo
Talk about a toss-up, I'm going to go slightly homer here and say Buffalo wins in overtime to even up the season series, which Hamilton currently leads 3-2. These games have all been tight, so predicting an overtime win here isn't too bold. Honestly a 50/50 game for me, but since Buffalo's at home, I gave them the extra point, which should go a long way to solidifying the 1 seed and the President's Trophy.

Projected Result: Win (OT)
Projected Record: 33-6-2

Projected Result: OTL
Projected Record: 30-8-3

***Gap is 5 points***

Game 42: Minnesota
Coming off a big win for Buffalo, perhaps they'll have a bit of a letdown vs Minnesota... or not. Heads will roll in this one as they cruise to an easy win.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 34-6-2

Game 42: Toronto
Another easy game for Hamilton to dominate and win. Yawn. Still within striking distance.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 31-8-3

***Gap is 5 points***

Game 43: Calgary
Buffalo continues their late-season road stretch as they visit the Parm Barn and take on rival Calgary. Although struggling this season, I would still expect a competitive game, although Vilde's struggles this season are well documented, and I'm not sure the league's number 1 TPE offense is the solution to those struggles. I have this as another win for Buffalo.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 35-6-2

Game 43: Edmonton
Hamilton begins to play worthy opposition, as they take in one of the playoff teams in the Western Conference in the Edmonton Blizzard. A competitive game that should see the Steelhawks take home 2 points.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 32-8-3

***Gap is 5 points***

Game 44: Edmonton
Riding a long winning streak and getting tired of the roadtrip, Buffalo heads north to take on a major Western contender in Edmonton. The Blizzard finish the season with a real tough schedule, and would love to have a playoff bid locked up sooner rather than later. To stay true to BUFs winning percentage of about 0.80, I actually have Edmonton surprising the Stampede, and stealing the full 2 points as Buffalo looks ahead to an easy game against Toronto.

Projected Result: Loss
Projected Record: 35-7-2

Game 44: Baltimore
Yawn, yawn, yawn, yawn. Although BAP has surprised NEW before (why NEW played their backup goalie against anyone besides TBB is ridiculous), it is unlikely they have enough firepower to outscore a lethal offence in Hamilton. Another win for the Hawks as they close the gap to 3 points with 6 games left.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 33-8-3

***Gap is 3 points***

Game 45: Toronto
Returning back to their own timezone, I fully expect BUF to come out firing and dominate from start to finish.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 36-7-2

Game 45: New Orleans
Hamilton takes on one of the favourites to win the Western Conference as they take on the Specters of New Orleans. Battle of legendary goalies in Cain and Kryyst likely see this a high-scoring game as both try to play worse than the other. Likely closer than other games, but the odds say Hamilton wins.

Potential Result: Win
Potential Record: 34-8-3

***Gap is 3 points***

Game 46: Baltimore
Another bottom feeder for Buffalo to get things in line in time for the playoffs. Once again, BUF should prove too difficult to overcome, and continue to rack up Ws to get hot for playoffs.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 37-7-2

Game 46: Los Angeles
Hamilton takes on the other contender to win the Western Conference's #1 seed as they take on Los Angeles. Similar to NOLA, Hamilton should be favoured this game, although not as heavily as they are against the majority of the teams in the league. A LAP win wouldn't be the most shocking, but it would be surprising. HAM wins another.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 35-8-3

***Gap is 3 points***

Game 47: Texas
Similar to Calgary, this should be a challenging game for Buffalo that could give us a surprising result, but odds are that Buffalo wins this as well.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 38-7-2

Game 47: Tampa Bay
lolololololol can the steelhawks get 10 goals?

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 36-8-3

***Gap is 3 points***

Game 48: Manhattan
One of the few teams to have handed Buffalo a loss on the season, it is likely that the Rage are fighting for their playoff lives at this point, as Manhattan and New England come down to the final sim of the regular season for the fourth and final seed. Given that, this should be a highly competitive and intense game, yet it is likely the talent wins out, giving Buffalo another win.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 39-7-2

Game 48: New England
Hamilton has an awful tough 3 game end to the season as they take on the Wolfpack twice, as well as the Syndicate in the middle of their Wolfpack games. Although a tough end to the season, odds are Hamilton wins at least one of the games against NEW, so we'll give them the W here as they force MAN-NEW to come down to the final game of the regular season. Battle for 1st is still three points as each team has two games to play.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 37-8-3

***Gap is 3 points***

Game 49: Chicago
A battle with a highly competitive divisional rival, this is a spot that is highly likely for Buffalo to lose points, as Chicago has played them tough for much of the year, and were even in contention for the 1 seed before slipping of late. I have CHI surprising Buffalo, and going into the playoffs hot, getting a regulation win out of the Stampede

Projected Result: Loss
Projected Record: 39-8-2

Game 49: Chicago
Both teams play their penultimate game of the season against Chicago, which should give each team an idea of how they stack up against a playoff opponent in Chicago. With Buffalo losing, Hamilton could narrow this down to 1 point with 1 game to play. I have Chicago upsetting Buffalo in the game above, and I have them winning this one as well. Hamilton has seemed to struggle against Chicago's high tempo, elite offensive attack and I see that continuing here.

Projected Result: Loss
Projected Record: 37-9-3

***Gap is 3 points***

***With this result, Buffalo clinches the 1 seed and the President's Trophy***

Game 50: TBB
:kekW: please JR just quick sim this monstrosity of a game, even tho TBB took a 2-0 lead the last time they played, Buffalo just wanted to make the game competitive for themselves, as they scored 7 unanswered.

Projected Result: Win
Projected Record: 40-8-2

Game 50: New England
The Steelhawks take on the Wolfpack in their final regular season game, and with nothing to play for as they are locked into the 2 seed, and with the Wolfpack needing 2 points to keep their season alive, I have New England getting the 2 points to put the pressure on the Rage.

Projected Result: Loss
Projected Record: 37-10-3

***Gap is 5 points***

In the end, I have Buffalo going 9-2 to end the season, giving them 82 points and a final record of 40-8-2. I wouldn't be shocked to see Buffalo go 8-3 or even 10-1, but I feel like 9-2 is most likely. A lot hinges on that Hamilton game.

Projected final record: 40-8-2, 82 points

For Hamilton, I have them finishing 9-2-1 to end the regular season, as Buffalo edges them out by 5 points to win the Presidents Trophy, forcing Hamilton into a brutal playoff match-up against Chicago. Although I have them finishing 9-2-1, I could see Hamilton easily going 10-2, or even 8-4 depending on results against Buffalo, Chicago, and the Western Conference elites like NOLA and LAP.

Final Projected Standings

1. Buffalo: 40-8-2, 82 points
2. Hamilton: 37-10-3. 77 points
