Thank you for joining us for a quick recap of the Anchorage Armada’s draft picks of the season 55 SMJHL draft, it was a busy one for the team. Let’s get right into the review. 10th Overall RW - Vladmir Petrov – @Muford Anchorage originally held the 8th overall pick in the draft, however they made a trade and traded down to the 10th overall position. With the 10th overall pick they selected Vladmir Petrov, the first of two Petrovs that would join the team. Vladmir Petrov is currently a balanced rookie, not standing out in too many areas for good or bad, however all of his skills are up to par, making him a complete two way player for his current skill level. This will allow Vladmir to develop into his future skill set as the season develops. Vladmir currently has 180 tpe, we are predicting him to have over 200 tpe by the time the season starts, which will give him a kick start on the season. Vladmir also has a 10 million dollar bank which is a great starting point and will allow him to buy new equipment and keep him a float for his training regime. We are excited to see how Vladmir develops throughout the season! Muford had a successful player with Tommy Tuck who had a long career, and we can see Vladmir Petrov projecting a long and similar career as Tommy! Anchorage got a great player at 10th. 16th Overall LW Slava Petrov - @ckroyal92 At the 16th Overall pick it was another Petrov off the board, and another LW, Slava Petrov. Slava Petrov has taken a little bit of a different development curve compared to Vladmir. Slava is focusing on the offensive side of the pick, with an accurate wrist shot, and quick first 3 strides in his skating pattern. However, with this offensive upside, his defensive game is lacking and will need work before the season starts if he wants to play consistent minutes. Slave will most likely be focusing on defensive drills during training camp which will help round out his game a little bit. Slava is hurting in the bank department a little bit with only 1m, he may be cutting it close if he does not earn any cash through the season. Slava’s build as an offensive skater will be interesting to watch, and we cant wait to see him scoring goals and embarrassing defenders during his rookie season. Unfortunately despite trying to add more Petrovs in the draft, this was the last Petrov the Armada were able to draft. Ck had a great career with Cory Knouse, in which he took a break after retiring that player. Coming back refreshed and motivated to build another strong player we believe like Muford, Ck will build another strong player. 28th Overall LD Michael Withecheck – @sakrosankt The first, first gen of the draft for Anchorage coming in at the 28th overall pick is Michael Withecheck, left defence. Defence is already a stacked position for the Armada so it is saying something that decided to draft another defencemen this early in the draft. His early scoring report shows Withecheck to be an offensive defenceman, with potential to quarterback a powerplay down the road. He is slightly lacking in his defensive game, however considering he will most likely be playing sheltered minutes this season it hopefully won’t be a huge factor. Withecheck will easily be over 200 tpe to start the season, and will be well on his way to getting his feet wet in his first SMJHL game. Sakrosankt is already in the negatives for his bank balance, so it will be important for him to focus on earning some cash as the season goes along if he wants to keep up his tpe pace. Being a first gen with sim league experience we can Sakrosankt being a nice addition for the Armada. 40th Overall LW Halldor Ragarsson – @Sleepy At the 40th overall pick the Armada added another left wing in Halldor Ragarsson. Ragarsson is an interesting prospect boasting great positioning and puck handling, however lacking in other areas of his game particularly his foot speed. Ragarsson will be leaning on his team mates to do the forechecking at least early on until he can develop his first 3 strides to help him get off the line. However, once Anchroage has the puck he should be a very a strong assets in the offensive zone, helping his team cycle the puck. Sleep is returning after a short lived previous player who was created in season 52, and didn’t last long. However sleepys player before that played a long career amassing over 1500 tpe. Sleepy currently has a bank account of 58 million, so he should have no trouble keeping up with equipment and training throughout the season. Anchorage is definitely hoping sleepy returns to his old self and builds another strong player who can help contribute to their playoff runs. 51st Overall LW Colin Fuhr – @Confusion With the last pick of the draft for the Armada at the 51st pick overall they selected another left wing, Colin Fuhr. Colin has a balanced offensive attack, with good skating abilities, however he is lacking in the defensive zone lack most rookies. The Armada wil be sending a lot of time with their rookies focusing on building their defensive side of the puck. Colin does have a bit of an aggressive side compared to some of the other rookies, so they may have to watch and see if he is taking many penalties. Colin looks to project into a strong power forward build, who will be strong on the puck and play a physical game. Confusion has been around the site for a long time, building players on and off. Confusion usually builds strong SMJHL players which the Armada will enjoy. However, Confusion is already in the negative for his bank account, so he will have to start earning some money to ensure he can properly train throughout the whole season. The Armadas draft focus was clear, it was based around forwards. They drafted 3 left wings, and 1 right wing, meaning one of these left wingers may have to suit up on the right wing, or even at center for part of the season. This strategy is not new for the armada as last season other rookies also saw time playing the opposite wing or center. They will be relying on their only first gen of the draft to build a strong defenceman who can step in when some of the vets graduate from the SMJHL level. Anchorage may have to work with some of their rookies on helping them earn some cash if they want them to be top earners. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Posting Freak ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() BOAT GANG Great article Oats! ![]() ![]() render cred: @rum_ham, @Rangerjase @Ragnar @supertardis101 @Jogurtaa @Drokeep @evilallbran @Carpy48 @enigmatic Player Page | Update Page ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() SHL GM pure of heart, dumb of ass
Anchorage had a solid draft, but their misadventure attempting to draft a goalie will be the enduring memory from this class.
