Tor Tuck Answers Some Questions for Money

(This post was last modified: 09-25-2020, 10:11 PM by ErM.)

Now that Tor Tuck is all moved in to his new assisted living facility in Buffalo he is ready to hold a press conference to let the people of Buffalo get to know the crotchety relic that will be sitting on the bench while the studs like Alexander Selich and Poopity Scoop are tearing it up.

Ask away...

Why did you leave the western conference once I join it

When I decided I was going to be leaving Edmonton I had no idea where I would be going. There were several teams I had talked to a few times when I was a free agent for a day and I figured they would be interested, but Buffalo was not on that list. I got a lot of great offers in free agency, which is exactly why I hate going to it. But in the end I decided to go to Buffalo because I felt they gave me a great opportunity to contribute to a championship team. I was contacted by people on the roster aside from the GM during the free agency process and they really sold me on the team.

I had to get away from someone with the pedigree that a player like biscuit. I think everyone in this dude's family is a hall of famer or future hall of famer. Maybe in my prime I would be up for the challenge, but Tor Tuck is just about washed up and wants to enjoy the ride on the coat tails of someone else at this stage in his career.

talk about your role and overall thoughts in the play by play genre

Oh man, this brings me back a bit. I think overall play by play got a bad rap with the league. Obviously there were issues that would take place and would dampen the experience from time to time, but I think overall it was a good experience for the league to offer its members. The majority of people were trying and we saw a lot of first generation come in and really get comfortable in the league with the play by plays. We have a lot of creative outlets in the SHL and when I first joined these leagues I was impressed with some of the graphics skills people were able to express in signatures, I like to think that the play by players allowed others to express their own creativity in different ways with jokes, writing, etc. Overall, I think the loss of the play by plays is a net loss for the members of the league but I get it. When people would bail and you had to wait for your playoff results it could get rough.

I took on the play by play role to try and make the whole experience more transparent and functional than it had been (I am not sure many remember but there was some controversy when I got the position). I do not think I was as successful as I wanted to be in making the system better, but I like to think I was at least able to make some improvements. It would be interesting to bring back the opportunity for play by plays for regular season games so people could "watch" games in a different medium without the pressure and stakes of the playoffs. While I miss the play by plays for the fun I felt they brought to the league, I do not miss having to organize and run them each season. I do not think very many jobs in the league required live support for the week or two that the playoffs occurred. I was happy to be able to give up that job because those two weeks of playoffs were a pain between trying to keep people to keep with the schedule they had accepted, getting files from simmers to presenters, and scrambling to find alternates for games. I think about half of the seasons I was the PBP head I had to fill in at the last minute for someone who ghosted me on the night of their game.

Maybe someone can convince the league to bring them back on a monetary basis for regular season games, I would not mind watching a few for old times sake.

Good luck in Buffalo Er!

You bastard! Going right for the heart. I don't think I will ever describe me leaving Edmonton as a happy experience. I have been in Edmonton for the last 3 years and the vast majority of my sim league friends are in that locker room. I was pissed when things went down how they did as well as when they did and in that moment I made the decision to leave. I posted my media in the heat of the moment and decided to stick with the decision I made there. Without the media piece, I probably would have been back on Edmonton after my friends in the locker room reached out to me. It seems a bit pathetic to admit, but I was definitely sad posting the media knowing I would be leaving Edmonton. It was the end of an era. During the free agency period there was the nagging feeling in the back of my head that I could just go back to Edmonton and not miss out on closing out my career there. It was definitely the same feeling of sadness and uneasiness for awhile. It has been a week or something since I signed in Buffalo and while I still miss my Edmonton gang, being in the Buffalo locker room has made the transition to a new team this late in the game so much easier. I was not super confident in my decisions in regards to all of the teams I turned down, but now that I have been here I am definitely happy with my decision to choose to sign in Buffalo.

In terms of my time in Edmonton I don't think there's anything I would have changed. Even when there were some seasons where others were having less enjoyable seasons, I was the least bothered and still enjoyed my time there. When Tor Tuck's career started it was just because a friend from another league said he should give it a try and he was addicted to farming TPE. I did not really care too much about the SHL and I never really expected Tuck to have the career that he has. My teammates know that I never really checked my personal stats and was never chasing awards, I was just getting TPE, putting it where I was asked, and hanging out. Everything else just sort of happened due to the circumstances around me so I guess that is pretty nice. To be honest I have no clue what it takes to get into the hall of fame in the SHL and even if I did know which accolades you needed, I couldn't tell you exactly what Tor Tuck has earned (except for 2 cups and 2000 TPE!) but people say Tor Tuck will probably in there so I guess that's pretty cool. In the end, I can't complain too much about falling into a situation where I was playing with some of the best players in the league over the course of my career. Since my general sentiment is that I would not have changed anything, the one thing I think I would have liked to change was having Edmonton GMs draft @Muford when he came into the league! But in the end, we were able to play on the same time for some time so it worked out.

In terms of things about Edmonton I would change, I imagine people are expecting some juicy answer but I do not really have one. I guess it would have been nice if they never got rid of the original Yeti logo because I always associated that with Edmonton. Maybe someday someone can draw up some throwback uniforms that feature the old logo. I didn't say I was going to be completely honest in this presser, I'm just procrastinating some real life things I need to do. But obviously I left Edmonton due to some disagreements (I am not even sure I would say disagreements per se) that arose with Edmonton's leadership. I know a lot of people around the league really hate Keygan but I am firmly not in that category. I would say I am friends with @Keygan, I've met the dude in real life (though with the way my last PMs were ignored maybe I am mistaken), but the timing of me getting my roles stripped, with no communication, and the way things played out when I reached out about what was going on just pissed me off. I would definitely say in the moment it was probably fair to say I took things a little too far leaving the team and committing to play elsewhere, but with how everything played out leading up to that decision and immediately following it, I think I would do it again. I just know that if the roles were reversed I would not have been removing people from channels, for the reasons I was told I was removed or the reasons I felt like I was removed. Obviously, I am answering this question that is tailored to the people in Edmonton and it may not be as clear to everyone else in the league. I just want to make it clear that I do not think Edmonton is some terrible locker room where there are a bunch of locker room cancers that you should avoid. There are a bunch of good people in there that I enjoyed my time with everyday. And full transparency, if it was a locker room full of cancer and @karlssens was there I would still rank it highly (sorry Tommy, Karl and I go way back <3).

In terms of TBB players in fantasy, HAHAHAHAHAHA. I would select them all over again. I have spent way too much time trying to optimize picks and win TPE in fantasy and failing (I suck at SHL fantasy, it is a known fact). However, a few seasons back I decided to try to win something else. I took this approach and it worked. I'd say $1,000,000 is greater than 0 TPE, especially when I lose a billion TPE in the offseason anyway. There is also something fulfilling about getting your fantasy team to be made up entirely on one team, so I enjoyed that as well and I could never pull it off with the all Edmonton team. I will likely keep using this approach until I am told that it is not allowed.

Thanks for the questions, I miss you buddy!

Now that the dust has settled a bit, are you happy with your choice to leave Edmonton?

Looking back, what would you have changed about your time in Edmonton? Is there anything about Edmonton that you would change?

How dare you select TBB players in fantasy?

Good luck in Buffalo Er!

@ErM do you want this graded? If so add any questions and a word count and the next group will swing by and grade this.

Sorry I haven't been around in awhile. I'll answer Karl's question and mark it to be graded!
