Registered Posting Freak Hello everyone! It is both my privilege and pleasure to announce the DACH roster for the S56 WJC! Forwards: With a massive exodus of 8 forwards aging out or being called up from last tournament, there is a huge overhaul from the last DACH team. However, thanks to a few transfers and a massive rookie surge in players from Switzerland, Germany, and especially Austria, the forward core is looking as strong as ever. Panda Panico @peej2189 : Returning from last year, Panico is no stranger to being bounced around the forward position, having played Centre, Right wing, and Left wing when needed. He returns to his natural position of LW this tournament after anchoring the 2C role last season. Brining a scoring touch and grit in their gameplay, Panico also brings a leadership element as one of the few S54s on a young DACH squad. Pavel Kharlamov @RippleLuck : The leading scorer in both goals and points for DACH last season, Kharlamov was also out of position at times, rotating between 2RW, 3C and 2C throughout last season’s tournament. This time, he is in full command of the top line and playing at his natural wing to start training camp, and will be a driving force on offence. Theo Kondos @Ohtaay : A key piece that led DACH’s formidable 3rd line shutdown crew last tournament, Kondos will be given more freedom to flex his offensive skills while keeping up his excellent defensive play. The returning Austrian will now have increased responsibility, but last tournament demonstrated they are already prepared for an increased workload. Dee Centreman IV @grok : A recent transfer to Germany from Great Britain, Centreman steps in at the perfect time. With Rocco Berni moving up to the big leagues and few natural centres older than S57, Centreman IV will likely assume the 1C role, and will showcase to the WJC why Germany was so stoked to have them transfer in. Thomas Rose @bigbluex02 : One of the most pleasant surprises from last year, Rose took the 3RW slot on an already stacked forward core for DACH last season. Adding speed and a scoring touch to the shutdown 3rd line, Rose is looking to build on an already exciting WJC career, and as only a S56 draftee, I’m looking forward to seeing them suit up for DACH for seasons to come. Jonas Caspari @jakey.peach : One of the few forwards returning from last year’s DACH squad, the young Swiss winger is looking to step up from the 4th line minutes of last tournament to more defensive responsibility. Playing a hard-hitting and defensive minded game, look for Caspari to be tasked with important defensive matchups this tournament. Anton Mihalov @Mr. Finland : A new transfer to Switzerland from the Vatican, the rapidly progressing center has already established themselves as high on the depth chart as they can, and is one of the more exciting young prospects Switzerland has to offer this tournament, and may likely slot into the top 6 as a S57 rookie! While the player’s agent currently heads up UCORCAL this WJC, I’m happy that I get a hold of Mihalov Luukas Lilja @retuperkele : Another center transferred to Switzerland, Lilja comes over from his native Finland to represent Team DACH for this WJC, and as another S57 rookie, looks only to impress on their first outing at the WJC level. Friedensreich Hundertwasser @Asked Madden : The first of a large S58 class for DACH, Hundertwasser DFAed on the St. Louis Scarecrows this season for their final regular seasons games and playoff run. Look for the young Austrian winger to cut their teeth on 3rd or 4th line minutes this tournament taking defensive matchups. Leon Schweingruber @DApolloS : A DFA for Quebec City, Schweingruber is another S58 draftee, this time a Swiss Centreman that will anchor the shutdown 4th line this tournament. A faceoff specialist, look for Schweingruber to make a name for themselves this tournament as a two-way player utilized in a shutdown role, sure to impress any SMJHL scouts. Marty Sertich @MartySertich : Returning for their last tour with Team DACH, Sertich is the sole S53 on the team, and will likely be the 13th forward/4th liner for their final WJC tournament, combining great speed with a physical edge. Defense: You will notice there is a plethora of defenseman on this roster, and that is due to there being far more active DACH defenseman than forwards. Look for a couple of natural blue-liners to play a forward role for the tournament, to fill in the gaps where active forwards were missing for DACH. Elias Kierkegaard @CountChocula : Returning for what will likely be their last WJC before being called up to the SHL, Kierkegaard was a do-everything D-man on a very young defensive core last season. Now with the S56 class grown up and developed further, Kierkegaard can focus on his strengths in matchups, and hopefully not be ridden as hard while still producing great offensive and defensive numbers. Jonas Kahnwald @Festinator : The winner of Rookie of the Tournament from last year’s WJC, Kahnwald is ready to take the top responsibility after wowing for DACH last year. One of the leaders in their draft class, Kahnwald is a future SHL star, and as a rookie has already shown what incredible things they are capable of. This tournament should only build on that impressive resume. Michael Withecheck @sakrosankt : While not as flashy, Withecheck was given an incredible workload last season as a S56 rookie defenseman, and with it took the opportunity to lead all DACH players in +/- and defenseman in Takeaway differential. A defensive stalwart, Withecheck is only bigger and better, and will look to be relied upon again, only this time as a sophomore with more growth under their belt. Bud Weiser @budweiser : This Bud’s for all of us. A defensive defenseman with a mean streak, Weiser is another key piece of the S56 defensive core of Team DACH. Bringing much-needed physicality and sandpaper, expect Weiser to take delight in getting the tough defensive matchups against other nation’s top lines. Arsene Leclerc @spooked : A recent transfer to Switzerland, the French phenom will suit up for the first time in DACH colours, and look to make an immediate impact. With such a deep defensive core, Leclerc looks to specialize on the Powerplay department, with wicked quarterbacking skills that has Switzerland fans salivating. Jimmy Nutcluster @eagle_brand : Another S57 defender, look to see Nutcluster rustling opponent’s jimmies from the 3rd pairing, bringing a well-rounded two-way game to team DACH. The Falcons have to be pleased with Nutcluster’s development so far, and he joins a long-standing tradition of solid defensive prospects being from Germany. Jorg Fuchs @rapideagle : Another DFA from St. Louis and another member of the Adjective-Bird Username Gang, Fuchs brings a speedy offensive element to team DACH, and the young S58 player only looks to impress the SMJHL scouts prior to the draft with their swift skating and smooth hands. Zayne Rotzuba @inverted : The final S58 to be listed for team DACH, Rotzuba was also a St. Louis DFA that dazzled on the back end. The physical defenseman will bring a bulky element that DACH needs, and will look to make a name for themselves before the draft with their hard-hitting style of play. Karl Shaufelberger @dylanjj37 : After impressing last season as a rookie S56 draftee on the back end, Shaufelberger hopes to continue to impress on DACH’s defensive core. The Swiss skater uses their impeccable puck skills to play an excellent two-way game. Franz Zipfel @Erebus : An Austrian skater currently enjoying a playoff run on the Maine Timber, Zipfel is a gritty tough-as-nails defender that lays down the body and is impossible to knock off of the puck. They bring a rock-solid steadiness to DACH on the back end at the bottom pairing. Robert Feltersnatch @Roamus : Joining us from the Great White North, Feltersnatch brings a smooth-skating high-octane offensive game, looking to bring a scoring touch to a more typically bruising back end. While only here on loan, DACH is excited to utilize Feltersnatch's talents for this tournament! Goalies: Cale Amundsen @Wally Nicolae Antonescu @Rancidbudgie Fortunate to keep the same tandem as last year, DACH is truly blessed with 425-capped goalies and actives, and loaning out Scoochie Stratton and Jon St. Ark for the same tournament just shows how deep that position is for the team. Amundsen will make their final tournament one to remember, as they will be called up by the Calgary Dragons this offseason at the conclusion of the WJC. Antonescu returns as the backup, performing solidly in his 4 games with DACH in the last round-robin. Congratulations to everyone that was selected! I look forward to seeing you out on the ice! Thank you to Ham and Sulo for the sigs!
