(Graded) Deep Dive #1 - Quebec City Citadelle's Top Stars
#1
(This post was last modified: 02-16-2021, 03:16 PM by Scrufdaddy.)

For my first deep dive, I will be analyzing the top players on the Quebec City Citadelles and how they have performed in their first 8 games.

The Citadelles are currently 7-1, with that 1 loss being a shootout loss. They are currently leading the East division of the SMJHL, and have the most points of any team thus far. The Citadelles are led by stars Igor Petrov, Jst Maro, Mew Two, and Zdenko Beranek.

Igor Petrov:
Currently tied for 2nd in the league in both points and goals, Igor is a force to be reckoned with. He was picked up as a free agent by the Citadelles during S56, and the Citadelles have absolutely no regrets. He isn’t the most popular or fanciest player in the league, but he always gets the job done when he needs to. Igor was taken 31st overall in the S57 SHL draft by the San Francisco Pride. In my opinion, he deserved to be taken in the first round and I believe that he is going to develop into a franchise player for the Pride.

Jst Maro:
Maro definitely isn’t a sharpshooter, as he only has 1 goal this season, but he is incredibly skilled at setting up his teammates. This is proven by his 7 assists, enough for 2nd in the league. He was drafted 62nd overall in the Citadelles' very first draft, S55. He has greatly surpassed the expectations the Citadelles had for him, and he shows no signs of slowing down. The Citadelles hope he can continue to rack up assists at this crazy rate.

Mew Two:
Mew Two was tied for 1st in both goals and points in the S58 preseason. He has slowed down a bit since then and is now tied for 4th in both the goals race and the points race in the regular season. Mew Two was drafted 21st overall by the Citadelles in the S57 draft and has improved drastically. He is an important aspect of the power-play unit for the Citadelles and looks to continue improving throughout the season.

Zdenko Beranek:
Beranek is the reigning SMJHL MVP, voted by both the fans and award committee. In S57, he led the league in goals and points. He hasn’t started S58 with the same dominance, but he is still a key member of the Citadelles. He has 3 goals and 3 assists for a total of 6 points so far, but he is helping the team in other ways. He has been an assistant captain for the Citadelles every year since the team was created, and his veteran mindset is invaluable to his teammates. He leads by example and is always willing to help his teammates improve. Beranek was drafted 18th overall in the S56 SHL draft by the Seattle Argonauts, and they are very excited to see him excel in the SMJHL. Beranek can’t wait to start dominating the SHL the same way he dominated the SMJHL last season.

Overall, the Citadelles have a very strong roster led by some incredible stars. They had a successful season last year, finishing 1st in the regular season and advancing to the semi-finals against the Anchorage Armada, where they suffered a heartbreaking loss in game 7. This season, they have their eyes on the prize, the Four Star Cup. (658 words)
