Friedland's Pre-Expansion Presser (2X MEDIA)
#1

It was the early morning of May 20th when I received the call – it was GM JR – a guy I always had a great relationship with. We shot the shit, hung out and chatted about our playoff exit – we weren’t expecting much this year, it was great to sneak out a win against a heavy favourite. I let him know that I couldn’t wait until next year – “I really think Baltimore is going places” I uttered.

That’s when he broke the news. With reluctance, he told me that I will be exposed for the upcoming S60 Expansion draft, leaving me eligible to be selected by either the Philadelphia Forge, managed by Acsolap, or the Montreal Patriotes, managed by Dankoa.

We had a great cordial conversation – I knew as a role playing defenseman, that my days may be numbered as a trade target.

THE PRESSER:

Q: Any bad blood between Baltimore management and yourself?

A: Not at all – I understand why they have to make such tough decisions. I know Cobb is exposed too, and that totally was not in their plans. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, this is a business and the Platoon have to do what’s right for them. It’s upsetting that
We all couldn’t stay together here in Baltimore, but I’m ready to move forward and move on to the next chapter in my career.

Q: Let’s say you’re not selected. would you resign in Baltimore?

A: I definitely would. I can’t say that testing the market hasn’t crossed my mind, but the culture in Baltimore is a perfect fit for me. However, I’m thinking I will be selected. Both GM’s have reached out to me, and we’ve have great talks – Truthfully, I want to go somewhere where I can get ice time and contribute to the overall project. I have a lot of miles left on these wheels and I want to be an impact player.

Q: So, where would you rather go? Montreal or Philadelphia

A: Whoever wants me. I think Montreal would be cool – For instance, in regards to montreal, I am familiar with dankoa as he is an incredibly knowledgeable analytics guy. I think he will have a great chance at building a contending team in a short amount of time. For Philadelphia, Acsolap has a history of building four-star contending teams. I think he can translate that into the professional levels and build a great locker room culture.

Q: Who else on Baltimore gets selected?

A: I think that these teams with miss out if they don’t select cobb (Patrick Shepherd). The man is going to exponentially increase in value, and I believe he’s totally a late bloomer. The man is great in the locker room and having him exposed is a gift for one of these teams. I also think selected NAT EMERSON would be wise – the man is a great locker room presence and a Vet who can do it all defensively and offensively. Certainly he is at the end of his rope and it would be sad to see him leave Baltimore, but he’s an awsesome guy overall.

Q: So on an unrelated note, this is your first appearance in the IIHF tournament with great Britain. Any thoughts?

A: I’m super honoured to be a part of the squad. These dudes really give elite squads such as the US and CANADA a big run for their money. I think with our roster, Great Britain definitely will medal, and I think with the addition of new depth guys, we can go the extra mile and get gold. I’d be ecstatic. I’m so exicted to get on the g o – and especially beat Ireland, with their abysmal lineup, it shouldn’t be too hard.

Q: Good luck at the expansion draft Frieds.. we will be watching on June 7th!

A: Thanks.. looking forward to it. Really excited to begin the next chapter in my career.
