After a deep playoff run in season 58, eventually falling to the Anchorage Armada in the third round, the Newfoundland Berserkers are poised to put up a fight in the season 60 post season.
Newfoundland has carried over the majority of it’s previous seasons roster, only losing the left winger Vasaline Podcalzone to a call up to the big leagues. Rookies Evil AllBran, 12 goals and 7 assists with a rating of +15, and Maxwell King, 5 goals and 8 assists with a rating of +9, have joined the teams forth line and have shown their willingness to compete and to produce for the teammates. Comparing season 58 and 59 you find that the Zerks have not only managed to keep their pace from the previous season but they have managed to improve the detail in both their offensive and defensive game. Over the 66 games in the 58 regular season the Zerks had a record of 41 – 21 – 4 for 86 points compared to a very similar 41 – 18 – 7 for 89 points across the 59 regular season. Despite losing Vasaline Podcalzone, the team’s third best goal scorer with 21 goals and 20 assists, Newfoundland has managed to find the back of the net during the regular season 20 times more compared to the previous season. While last year’s top goal scorer for the team Dwayne Gretzky hands have cooled off, scoring only 16 goals down from 27 in the previous year, the team have come together for a combined 234 goals. With a few standouts, this increase in production has really been a result of players from all lines stepping up. Top line center Ric Charlesworth has continued his excellent form leading the Newfoundland roster with 28 goals and third line winger Leon Athanasios has had a stellar year finishing at number 2 with an impressive 25 goals. However it is not just the team’s offensive game that has improved. Increasing their goal differential from +65 to +83 the Zerks have let in fewer goals over this regular season. Defenseman Billy Brooks has demonstrated his lust for taking the body and his desire to make his opponents fight for every inch of ice almost doubling his number of hits, recording a bone shattering total of 194 hits during the regular season. Total hits this season might be down from last the team has improved their puck discipline, not just increasing the number of takeaways (up from 409 to 449) but they have simultaneously reduced their giveaways (down from 600 to 555). Across the team the Berserkers have demonstrated a willingness to put their bodies on the line for their club, recording a total of 828 blocked shots every line is ready to do what it takes to win. Since losing one of their top contributors on the ice Newfoundland has not shown any signs of slowing down and they are going into the playoffs with a roster that is filled with frenzied thoughts of what could have been and a hunger to claim the cup once more. Approved, +5 TPE to @Evil_AllBran |
