(985 words, ready for grading) The S60 IIHF tournament has finished their fourth day of the round robins, and the standings are starting to solidify themselves. Both groups have intense competition for the elimination round berths, and the standings are separated by as few as three points, in the example of Group B. Team Finland finally had their first loss in the tournament, but still has an absurd goal differential of +16. Group A is spread out a little more but not by much, and both Team Sweden and Team Finland scramble for the top position, and Team USA is only five points behind bringing up the last slot for the postseason. Here are the current standings after the fourth day of sims: Here is the fourth day of sims and the games so far: SWI 3 - CZE 2 Team Switzerland held off a last-minute push by Team Czechia to come out on top in a 3-2 win, with Ursin Zimmerman having a great game off the scoresheet. He was terrific defensively, limiting Czech chances using smart positioning, and converting them into chances the other way. NOR 1 - USA 4 Team USA handed Team Norway their another loss as they managed to get 4 pucks past goaltender Cillian Kavanagh. Dwight Knight managed to score a powerplay goal in the second as Axel Foley sat in the box for a slashing penalty, but two goals in the third would cement the Americans as the victors in this matchup. LTV 0 - RUS 3 Team Russia blanked Team Latvia as this goaltenders duel went Samath Beibitzhanov’s way. Thor Odinson still saved 36 out of 39 shots sent his way, but his team was unable to provide any goal support as Team Russia was firing on all cylinders, limiting the Latvians to the perimeter and out of the dangerous areas. FIN 1 - CAN 2 Team Finland was handed their first loss by Team Canada in a close-fought 2-1 game. Kaarlo Kekkonen would start off the festivities ten seconds into the game as he scored on a set play from the opening face-off, but Team Canada would rally back in the second period, scoring two goals which held up for the rest of the game. SWE 4 - AUT 3 Team Sweden staved off a comeback attempt from Team Austria, as a late goal from Friedensreich Hundertwasser put some life back in the Austrian side, but goaltender A Jobin would deny any further attempts. Team Austria went 2-for-6 in the powerplay as Team Sweden let themselves get careless and made several penalized mistakes. AUT 1 - SWE 5 Part of a back to back series, Team Austria’s stamina was clearly flagging as Team Sweden surged to a 5-1 victory with three goals in the third period. The more veteran Swedish team showed their conditioning as they played hard all game, and were able to dominate in the latter part. However, Team Austria’s power play continued to be potent as they scored on 1 out of 2 opportunities that they had. GBR 0 - GER 3 Team Great Britain was unable to solve Scoochie Stratton as he held the British pucks out of his net, with both teams nearly having 50 shots per side in the game. Burlok Sulfurgold had a game-high 8 shots on net, which resulted in a goal for him and countless other rebound chances that Luca Del Vecchio had to deal with. CAN 8 - RUS 6 With seven goals scored in the second period, and fourteen goals combined, this was an action-packed game between Team Russia and Team Canada. Mika Kandinsky had a four point game, and Team Russia managed to chase Phillip Weaver out of the net as he let in 4 goals on 16 shots. LTV 2 - JPN 3 (OT) Team Latvia nearly had a comeback against Team Japan, as two goals late in the third gave them equalizers, but Team Japan would come out victorious in the shootout as Ryu Jones and Martijn Westbroek would score, and Team Latvia was unable to keep the shootout going. NOR 3 - IRL 4 (OT) Team Ireland found their second win of the tournament in the extra frame as Team Norway equalized in the third with goals from Slava Petrov and Daniel Laforest. Three Irish shooters would get past Cillian Kavanagh in the shootout, and Norway was unable to match that feat against Elizabeth Doyle who had a great game. JPN 2 - CZE 5 Team Czechia had a great third period against Team Japan, scoring three goals to give them the uncontested lead of the game, and sucking the life out of the samurai. Ruslan Zaporozhets had a three point game, and Aron Hernadivic was a shooting machine as he had seven shots on goal for the Czech. USA 6 (OT) - SWE 5 Team Sweden was unable to hold on to their three goal lead as Team USA had a late surge in the third period, including a shorthanded goal, to equalize and then eventually win the game in overtime. Joseph Weston led the comeback with a shorthanded goal, and an untimely call against Sven Yxskaft gave Julio Tokolosh a powerplay goal to bring the game to overtime, where Joseph Weston would end it with his second goal of the game. IRL 1 - GER 4 Jack Kanoff had a great game as he dominated the second period, including scoring two goals. Burlok Sulfurgold would dash any hopes of an Irish comeback as he put the puck into an empty net in the last minutes of the third period. Cassius Darrow was his usual defensive master, turning away chances before they became dangerous. SWI 4 - LTV 2 Team Switzerland would find their second win this tournament against Team Latvia, as they had a potent game offensively with 40 shots on net. Veteran goaltender Kata Vilde faced 40 shots on net, and turned away 36. Thanks for tuning in!
