Interview with Dirty Boots pre SHL Draft by Cooper of NTV News

Cooper: Hello everyone! Cooper here with NTV news! Today we're having a chat with local Simulation Major Junior Hockey League rookie and hometown superstar, Dirty Boots! Dirty Boots was drafted by the Detroit Falcons for the Season 62 entry draft class with the 19th overall pick! Since joining the Detroit Falcons, Dirty Boots has reached 36 points with 10 goals and 26 assists. He was third on the team on time on the ice with 1453 minutes played. He was also third on the team in shots blocked with 114! With a great first rookie season in the SMJHL, please welcome Dirty Boots! Hey Dirty! How are you?

Boots: Hey Cooper! I'm great! Thanks for the great introduction! I'm happy to be here!

Cooper: That's great to hear! We've got a couple of questions for you this morning as you wait to be drafted once again into the big league, the Simulation Hockey League! Are you excited?

Boots: I'm incredibly excited! I've had such a great season with Detroit and I feel like I've already accomplished so much but I'm definitely excited to see where I end up!

Cooper: There's been a lot of scouting as this appears to be a pretty deep draft. Do you have any speculation as to which team will take you or how high you'll get drafted?

Boots: Well there's obviously a lot of talent in this class! Even though we've been on different teams I've been chatting with a lot of the guys in the group. As for myself, I've been chatting with a lot of General Managers this week from many of the teams in the SHL. Some chats have been short but a lot of them were long and progressive and I believe there are some teams that may have me high up on their list.

Cooper: Any clue as to what those teams may be?

Boots: Well I don't want to give too much away but I've had some great and memorable discussions as well as multiple meetings with three teams. In alphabetical order just for fairness sake those have been The Calgary Dragons, The Hamilton Steelhawks and the Texas Renegades.

Cooper: Sounds like you’ve got a lot of interest! Do you have a preference?

Boots: I’ll be happy to make either team honestly. They’ve all shown great interest and I’d be happy to play for either one of them!

Cooper: Let’s look back on your season with the Detroit Falcons. How do you feel about your first season playing in the SMJHL?

Boots: It’s been a great experience so far! The locker room has been fantastic. It’s a great core group of knowledgeable players as well as some young talent. We’re all playing together as a strong team that wants to see success. We’re really excited for what’s to come in Detroit!
I’m after learning a lot from the guys who have been around for a while as well. Great tips that have helped improve my game but also just a great group to be around. Regardless of where I end up in the future I’ll always be a part of this team.

Cooper: Sounds like you’re with a great bunch! Are there any goals or accomplishments you’ve made so far that you’re happy with or anything you’re looking to improve on for next season?

Boots: I’m honestly very happy with my season with the Detroit Falcons. The ten goals were very nice and somewhat unexpected but I’m really pleased with my 26 assists. Being third on the team in assists in just my first year was a big accomplishment for me. I’m planning on getting better this offseason and will be going for higher totals! For my style of play I want to be the guy getting the puck on the goal scorer's sticks. I would love to hit 40 assists next season. Another ten goals would be another bonus! I’m also hoping to work on my powerplay time. This season I was only able to get seven points on the power play. My big goal for my career is to quarterback the Primary power play unit so I really need to work on my strategies and offensive abilities if I want to improve there.

Cooper: It sounds like you’re already ready to get back to it for the next season! As you are now a first season vet, we’ve got a new crowd of players getting drafted into the SMJHL soon as well! Any tips for those players about to get drafted into juniors?

Boots: I think the best advice I’d give to new draftees would be to take your time and take everything in. Get adjusted to how the league is run and try your best to figure out the proper way to progress. I’d also recommend talking with and getting to  know your draft class as there will be lots of memorable players you’ll come across in your league. You may not end up on the same Junior team but you may end up getting to play together in the SHL. It’s also important to get to know the general managers and assistants in the league as well as not only will they be the ones drafting you but they also have so much knowledge and guidance that you can absorb through them. They’ve been around for a while and know the best practices and how to get things done. This whole league is incredibly welcoming and I believe that there is no such thing as a stupid question. If there’s anything you want to learn more of just ask and someone will reach out and help you. If they don’t know then they will know someone else who does. Most importantly, have fun! This is a great place to be! It’s a positive atmosphere with lots to do and so long as you stay positive and enjoy it all there’s no doubt that anyone will have a long and established career in the SHL!

Cooper: Well that sounds like a great place to end this interview on such a positive note! Dirty, I want to thank you for your time with us today! It’s been a pleasure speaking with you! All your fans from home are always rooting for you. Would you please be so kind as to have another interview with us after the SHL S62 entry draft? We’re really anxious to see where you end up!

Boots: Of course! I’ll be glad to join you again! It’s been a pleasure reflecting on my season and sharing my thoughts with you.

Cooper: I’m glad to hear that! Well with that, this is Cooper with NTV news wishing Dirty Boots luck in the SHL draft! Please join us later to congratulate Dirty on getting drafted as we get his thoughts on the Draft!
