Deep Dive #2 - A review into Johnny Patey's junior career
#1

As we have headed into the second version of Johnny Patey with my current player, let's take a look back into how my first players junior career ended up overall, and how it compares to my current players first season.

As we look at the comparison of the first seasons, both Patey's ended up playing on the third line so it should be a pretty even comparison. Looking at the point totals, V2 ended up destroying V1 with a point total of 37 compared to 20. With Patey V1, the Falcons were not a great team. With the Citadelles this season making it to the playoffs, this may be why V2 may have had a better season. V2 also ended up with a +13 where V1 ended up with a -11, so he was definitely more of a part of the good, instead of the bad. One area that was similar was the total shots they both took with V1 having 106 where V2 had 129, but the difference between the two was that V1 only had a 2.8% shooting percentage, which to be honest is atrocious. V2 ended up having a little more luck with a shooting percentage of 6.2, which also not great, but not as bad as a 2.8. Finally when looking at the game ratings, Patey V1 had a mediocre beginning to his career with a 53 OGR and a 57 DGR, whereas V2 had a 64 OGR and a 65 DGR.

Now comparing the rest of Johnny Patey's junior career to V2's first season, the game ratings are quite shocking. When V1 was at his peak of 425 TPE, he tallied one season with a 61 OGR/ 64 DGR and his final season he had a 58 OGR/68 DGR season. These two seasons had a 63 and 64 total game rating, which were both lower than V2's game rating of 65 in his first season with the Citadelles'. This begs us to ask the question of whether Patey V1 was being used properly in his final two seasons with the Falcons and the Raptors, or if he is being used exactly as he should with QCC.

One thing that I am curious to see is if Patey V2 will be able to achieve similar results to Patey V1's second season with the Falcons. In this season, V1 was able to achieve stats such as 18G, 40A and 58 points, which was 5th in the entire league for defenceman that season. Also in that season, V1 was able to achieve a +52 which was 6th in the league. For Patey V2 to be able to reach this, he may need to step up to the second or third line, as on the third line he may not get to play with most of the goal scorers on the team. In that second season, V1 was only playing 18:52 minutes per game where V2's first season, he was playing over 20 minutes, so this does seem unachieveable or unlikely, but with more TPE, it could make a massive difference. One other thing that will help Patey with a lot of these stats is staying out of the box. This season, Patey V2 had 41 total PIM's, but when comparing this to V1's total over 4 seasons, he only had 60, in 4 times the amount of games.

Overall Patey V2 had a great first season, but it will be interesting to see if he can reach the peak of the first iteration of Patey, or if he will have some of the lows V1 also had in certain seasons.
