Deep Dive #1 - Grizzlies Strong Start

Grizzlies Strong Start

The Great Falls Grizzlies have started the season with a record of 11-7-0 with 22 points and good currently for 2nd in the SMJHL behind Qubec. That said the Grizzlies do have more games played than most other teams around them so some teams have a chance to pass them as they catch up in games. Quebec has shutout the Grizzlies twice first 7-0 and today 3-0. So Quebec looks really strong this season.

It's early and much can change but its been really fun for the Grizzlies so far. Let's take a look at some of the players and how their play has lead to 11 wins.

Gordon-William Gibbles @SpartanGibbles leads the way with 13 goals and 10 assists in 18 games. His career high was 16 two seasons ago and he scored 15 last season. He is looking to shatter his goal scoring record this year. Last year he set a new career high with 44 points but with 23 already he will look to coast past that and it will be fun to watch. He is playing 1st line wing and has been huge on the Power Play.

James Howlett @Schocar This stud rookie is 2nd on the team in points right now and has put up 5 goals and 14 assists for 19 points in 18 games. Very nice numbers for playing on the 3rd line and not on the Power Play. This Canadian is only 5 foot 3 but he is aggressive and only 2 PIMs behind the team lead. His great play has really helped boost this team.

Jani Mänty @puolivalmiste is the 2nd sniper on our list. With 11 goals already in 18 games they are halfway to their career high of 22 set last season. They have 2 game winning goals already and have been huge for the Grizzlies at key times. They are helping out the Power Play with 5 goals there and are looking better than ever before. A great Center for the Grizzlies.

Icee Richradson @IceeBreaksTheSHL is the next playmaker on the list with 11 assists good for 3rd on the team and 3 goals to go with it. Icee is on the 2nd line playing as a winger. This is Richradsons first year on the Grizzlies and 2nd season as a forward. Last year they finished 66 games for MET with 5 goals and 11 assist. They are only 2 goals away from matching last seasons totals and its very early in the year. Most of their points have come at even strength and they look amazing. 2nd on the team in hits they are throwing their body around.

Thomas Hudson @EricNCSU is the 2nd rookie on the list. With 6 goals and 7 assists in 18 games Hudson has been a huge help to the 3rd line which has been a great success so far in the season. 6 goals is great but also 2 of them have been short handed which is a a very nice stat for the Grizzlies. He has 39 hits so far which is great and his physical presence has been notice by the team.

John Peanut @Chevy on defense has been having the best season of his career as well. In his 3rd season as a Grizzly he has 1 goal and 12 assists already. Last year he set career highs in both goals with 8 and points with 21. He is only 2 assists behind his career high and we have plenty of hockey left to play. Averaging close to 22 minutes a night and playing on both special teams, Peanut is a massive reason the Grizzlies have won 11 games.

Many players are playing great but I'm already over 500 words so I'll finish with a goalie.

Lee Harrison @zT Gamoja Tz leads the league with 2 shut outs. Is 2nd place in wins with 8. 5th in GAA and 7th in SV%. Harrison has played lights out amazing for the Grizzlies and has helped to steal some big points early in the year that could end up being huge come playoff race time.  With an 8-3 record Harrison is a rock that the team can always count on to make a big save at a key moment.

Approved @Mack @CptSquall

Also tagging @zT Gamoja Tz because he didn't get tagged with his name in lights and goalies rule.
