Michael McFadden
@Abdeezy Considered one of the goats of goalies, McFadden is ranked the 2nd highest out of all the goalies on this list. And for good reason on why he is considered one of the best goalies ever. Playing on 3 different teams over his career, McFadden excelled on all 3 teams, pushing them all to their best. His first stop in the journey is in Seattle. No not the Argonauts, but the Seattle Riot, now the Tampa Bay Barracuda. Starting off there, his rookie season saw a good start to his career, posting a 22 win, 17 loses, 5 OTL season. With a good start, McFadden earned the Rookie All Star team and the Ryan Jesster nomination for his good work. Growing off of that first season success, McFadden’s next couple of seasons were solid, with the following seasons being 22,25, and 25 wins. A very solid start for a goaltender. S34 is when he gets his first McBride nomination. Going 18-16-10 with 3 shutouts. McFadden also sported a .915 SV%. A crazy statline indeed, having 10 OTL/SOL. But with a great save percentage, McFadden earned the McBride nom, and the 3rd All Star team. His first breakout season came in S37, where he went 29-9-3 with 4 shutouts and a .920 SV%. His first huge season as a goaltender. And with that he won the McBride, Honcho, and the 1st All Star team. S38 also showed good results as well, winning 25 games, but not going back to the level he was last season. And as Seattle was preparing to blow it all up, McFadden was on the trade block for the first time. McFadden's time in Seattle was over, and his time in Edmonton is about to start Traded in the S38 offseason, McFadden was traded to Edmonton for Svatoslav Bodnar, Ekaterina Rudnikova, EDM S41 1st, and future considerations. Waiving his NTC, McFadden is ready to move from one contender to another, as Seattle was preparing to embark on their rebuilding journey. It didn't take long for the McFadden trade to return dividends. S39 showed a good outing for McFadden. For the seasons McFadden was in Edmonton, he showed why he is one of the best goalies. S40, S41, and S42 McFadden was Nominated for the McBride. In S40 he won the Honcho award for least amount of goals scored. And he was a x2 2nd All Star, and a x1 3rd All Star. What were his statlines looking like for those 3 big seasons? S40: 25-13-6 2SO, .919 SV% S41: 27-12-5 2SO .910 SV% S42: 28-12-4 2 SO .906 SV% S43 also showed decent success, with him getting the 3rd All Star. But the more surprising thing was McFadden was traded midseason to Toronto. Edmonton wanted to get Tommy Tuck from Toronto, as their next great goalie. So McFadden was sent to Toronto. And what did McFadden do in Toronto? In S44 he put up one of the best statistical seasons a goalie could have. In Toronto he went 29-13-2 with 3 shutouts and a monster .931 SV% over the entire season. With that he got all the awards. 1st All Star, John McBride Win, Mike Honcho Win, Ron Mexico Win, Khan Win. His Magnum Opus of seasons. What defined him from a great goalie to being one of the best goalies in the SHL. The rest of his seasons in Toronto was good, but as the user behind McFadden went inactive, and not being able to keep up with regression, he did not last long after the S44 season. Playing up until S48, he had decent stats, but nothing as crazy as S44. Retiring in S48, McFadden leaped Jakub Aittokallio for most wins for a goalie. Securing his spots as one of the greats in goaltending. So what was McFaddens legacy? The biggest one is breaking the all time wins record from Jakub Aittokallio , which stood from S26->S46 when McFadden broke it. A 20 season record was broken. He is also known for one of the best individual records for a goalie in modern day SHL. All that was missing was a Challenge Cup, which he unfortunately did not get. With 4 McBride Noms and 2 McBride wins, he is one of the most decorated goalies ever. Top on his MVP level season getting him a Ron Mexico win as well, he truly goes down as the best goalie ever for the SHL. |
