Chicago's strong Drafts while rebuilding (2x SHL Draft)

Over the course of the S50’s and S60’s Chicago Syndicate had been a strong team even going on to capture the challenge cup in S57 and S64. This era of success hit a slowdown in the early S70’s though, the Chicago powerhouse seemed like it was nearing the end of an era and many of its long-standing players began to leave and be moved, a rebuild had begun. Or so most thought, despite fielding what can be considered a weak roster Chicago never truly fell off as was expected in the mid S70s and continued to make the playoffs even now scaring off pesky under voters in casino and their roster is only improving. Officially this rebuild started with SchwarzNarr stepping down and Nike taking on the role of General Manager with the team but to truly appreciate the lack of full-on falloff or tear it down rebuilding you have to look a few seasons before this.

The start of our journey is S71 and was a good showing for Chicago finishing 1 game shy of the conference finals losing out in 7 games to Winnipeg, a performance that earned them the 14 overall pick in the S72 draft. In a move some considered off-board since the user joined late, Schwarz decided to first timer Alexandros Mograine – user Sliceruser. A pick that in my humble opinion turned out to be one of if not the biggest steals of the draft as the user not only caught up to the leaders in the draft but currently hovers between top 5-8th in the class. A great pickup at 14th and a good start for the next generation that would also move on to become Co-GM of the team.

Next up is S72 in which CHI once again fell to Winnipeg in round 2 and even had a great 3rd place finish in the regular season landing them the 16th pick in the S73 draft and with some previous trading they also landed the 10th pick. These 2 picks would be another major addition to the rebuild. Picking up Sad Ketchup – user Tylar at 10th who has hovered at 5th in draft class TPE and is the high on the list to win the jesster this season. Secondly, they picked up future GM Ho Lee-Smokes – user Nike who has hovered 10th in draft class TPE. 2 more amazing pickups that could be considered steals for their drafted position especially factoring in the future GM and a jesster candidate who are above the TPE from draft position. Finally in this draft a 3rd! steal occurred in Ondrej von Stoodnick – user saucetonia who was drafted 33rd overall but remains hovering around 27th in their draft.

In S73 you would be surprised to hear that Chicago lost to Winnipeg in the 2nd round, again, this would be their final strong playoff showing of the previous era leading them to getting the 13th pick in the S74 draft. With the 13th overall pick they selected Cal Juice – user Caltroit_red_flames who has been a solid pickup earning about 20th in the class. Another has risen to prominence in this class as well, with pick 33 Leo Roze – user Vic03 who has hovered 7th ! in tpe amongst his class turning into a major steal for a second round pick.

These 6 picks will be the main core along with long time veteran Dave Heinrich for Chicago going into the S77 season. These picks have displayed a strong scouting and drafting aptitude for the Syndicate as the finals days of their compete window in the S50 and S60 era Syndicate. The S74 season and S75 draft can be considered the official start of the Nike era or S70 draftee Syndikids as that is when he first takes over and the final hurrah of what remained of the previous roster before being traded and leaving the team. This would also be the first season for their group of draftees, beginning with Alexandros Mograine(me!) so it is a good place to start.

Now this may shock you but in S74 Winnipeg once again was the one to eliminate Chicago this time in the first round despite having a fairly strong season. This performance earned them the 11th overall pick in the S75 draft picking up Literally Wizard – user Baz who has hovered 7th in TPE in their draft class, another pick that can be considered a steal. Another player who looks to join the roster and make an immediate impact starting this season will be Goaltender Karter Mendenhall who proves to be yet another steal at the 51st pick overall who hovers 35th for TPE in class. lastly in this class we also grabbed Jordan Bam Bam Bamford – user Bamford13, the 20iest fighter you ever did see and I’m afraid of them and they are on my team.

The final draft before this weekends is the S76 draft which happened in the true “rebuilding” seasons for Chicago with the S75 season going honestly better then expected making the playoffs even if they didn’t do well in them. and it wasn’t Winnipeg that beat us this time! For this performance Chicago earned the 7th and 27th overall picks in the draft. For 7th overall they grabbed Max Belcher – user xjoverax who has been hovering around 7th in his draft class for TPE but also sports a ridiculous 193 million bank account and aims to be the richest member of the SHL and is well on track. And the last of Chicago’s draft picks in the new era I will speak on is 27th overall pick Pique Boo who maintains around 25th in their class and is slowly but surely picking up their earing and on track to be another steal as the seasons go.

I don’t know if our roster will live up to the hype as the seasons go by but we have such a strong foundation from our solid scouting and drafting I can’t help but be excited at the team we have built in the next 2-3 seasons as they all get the call up and start reaching into their prime. Despite just starting out as Co-Gm I can confidently say a team’s foundation is built through the draft and you should never take it for granted, these users and players will be your teammates and friends for years to come so don’t sleep on them. I can’t wait to see what new friends we will draft and add to our team in the next few days as the final pieces of our rebuild are brought in. thank you for reading I hoped you enjoyed this overview of our prospects, sliceruser out.
