Let's take a quick look at some of the picks in the S79 SMJHL Entry Draft from round three and below, that performed remarkably well considering their low(-ish) draft positions.

Kris Sabev - LD - Great Falls Grizzlies

We're gonna start with a defender who was picked by the Grizzlies at number 58 in round 3, which is also the third lowest pick overall in this draft. He is a speedy, shoot-first offensive d-man, who managed to record 31 points and a respectable -4 on a Great Falls team that finished 12th overall at the end of the season. Looking at his ratings and the scouting reports, you'd expect him to shy away from the physical aspects of the game, but after 66 games he could record over 100 hits and blocked shots. All in all a pretty good return for a pick that low.

Hal MacGuiness - RD - Maine Timber

With Sabev being a LD, let's take a look at one on the right side. Maine picked MacGuiness at pick 48, round 3 and they got a two-way defender that has a pretty decent shot and no clear weaknesses. Playing on a very good Timber team, he still got decent minutes and managed to pay back his coach by recording 33 points with a +21 and a couple short-handed goals. In terms of development there is room for improvement as some of his teammates seem to have surpassed him in that department.

Mick Geno - LW - Nevada Battleborn

Let's move on to some forwards now, starting with this third-rounder (pick 46). In Geno the Battleborn got a forward with a great shot and generally impressive offensive skills. Using those he racked in almost a point per game and also lead Nevada in points together with fellow, higher selected rookie Drew McIntyre. Despite a high amount of hits, his defensive game needs a bit of work, but his development over the whole season showed that we will likely hear more from this young man.

Boogan McGillicuddy - RW - St. Louis Scarecrows

For our second forward we have a right winger who was called onto the podium at position #42 in round 3 of the draft. He instantly made an impact on the Scarecrows recording 74 points, 26 goals (9 on the PP), only to be surpassed by S77 draftee Louis Bélanger. McGillicuddy also played big minutes and had a very good year development-wise. With a well-round offensive skill set, he is also willing to play a physical game if needed. It wouldn't be surprising if he gets drafted at a significantly higher position in the S80 SHL draft.

DarthDeavin & Meowlnir Kittenson - G - Colorado Raptors

Last but not least we take a look at a goalie. Actually, make that two goalies. The Raptors selected Meowlnir Kittenson at pick 33 in round 3 and DarthDeavin with the first pick of round 4. Both had to step in right away and shoulder the full load with almost an equal amount of games. In terms of personal development and save percentage, Kittenson had a slightly better season, but DarthDeavin posted 22 wins in 37 games which isn't too shabby either. Both are also contributing to an already deep playoff run.
